PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Global Lifetime Sales – February 2016 Update - Sales

Welcome to the latest edition of the ‘PS4 vs Xbox One vs Wii U Worldwide’ article. This series compares the monthly and lifetime sales of the 8th generation of home consoles - the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U.
Looking at the total sales of the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Wii U in February 2016 shows how the PlayStation 4 has continued to grow its lead over the Xbox One and Wii U, outselling both of them combined. The Xbox One in turn continues to increase its lead over the Wii U.
The PlayStation 4 passed the 38 million mark and the Xbox One passed the 20 million mark. The PS4 has sold 38.56 million units lifetime, the Xbox One 20.27 million units, and the Wii U 12.79 million units.
Taking a look at the marketshare, the PlayStation 4 tops the other two platforms combined. The PlayStation 4 has 54 percent market share, the Xbox One sits at 28 percent, and the Wii U 18 percent.
PlayStation 4 Total Sales: 38,557,196
Xbox One Total Sales: 20,265,616
Wii U Total Sales: 12,788,866
The PlayStation 4 has outsold both the Xbox One and Wii U every month since it launched in November 2013. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U in January for the 20th straight month. The PS4 outsold the Xbox One by 777,867 units for the month and the Wii U by 1,030,951 units. The Xbox One outsold the Wii U by 253,084 units.
When you compare monthly sales to a year ago the PlayStation 4 is up, while the Xbox One and Wii U are down. The PlayStation 4 is up 228.518 units, the Xbox One is down 41,728 units, and the Wii U is down 28,884 units.
Looking at market share for the month of November, the PlayStation 4 managed to achieve 68 percent. The Xbox One accounted for 23 percent of the consoles sold, and the Wii U nine percent.
PlayStation 4 Monthly Sales: 1,186,749
Xbox One Monthly Sales: 408,882
Wii U Monthly Sales: 155,798
The Wii U beat the PS4 and Xbox One to the market by a year. The Wii U launched in November 2012, while the PS4 and Xbox One launched in November 2013.

I wonder, will the PS4 have the same marketshare on home consoles than the 3DS has on handhelds, around 80%?
That would require the ps4 outselling the xbox one and wii u combined over 4 to 1 until it hit that ratio and then remain 4 to 1 the rest of the gen. It's not going to happen. It hasn't even done over 2 to one combined since launch and that would only get it to about 67%
@Wonktonodi but i think that i read in some news article that the ps4 already outsold the xbox one and wii u combined and it also outsold the xbox one and xbox 360 combined.
it has outsold them combined, what it hasn't done is outsold them by anywhere near enough to get 80% marketshare. If the xbox one and wii u never sold another unit, the ps4 would need to sell another 90 million to reach an 80% marketshare. Since they are both still selling it would need to 4 consoles for every xbox sold and wii u sold in addition to that 90 million. 80% is never going to happen.
@Wonktonodi In Feb, PS4 has outsold Xbox 1 nearly 3:1, or 2.902:1 if you want to be pedantic. I still believe this will pass 3:1 once Uncharted 4 hits. Let's see if the Gears of War 4 and Quantum Break releases can curve this trend. If Gears of QB don't change this trend, then I see Xbox One sales dropping off massively throughout this year. Thus by Christmas that 4:1 ratio you say is impossible may well be a reality :).
Nearly 3 to 1 compared to just the xbox, isn't over 4:1 for both the xbox and the wii u. Even the ps2 didn't have an 80% market share. I'm not saying the ps4 won't ever outsell the competition 4:1. I'm saying that the 90 million deficit for an 80% market share won't be overcome, especially since it's not outselling them by 4:1 now.
@Wonktonodi I point out Xbox One as 3:1 because PS4 is already outselling WiiU by 5:1!!
So, if sales of both Xbox and WiiU continue to decline, and it reaches a 5:1or more(like in Japan) in the next couple of years, then PS4 could make up the difference. I'm not saying they will, but mathematically this could happen.
As I mentioned a few weeks ago, Xbox one sales are slowing and Phil Spencer and their laster liked focus on PC and non exclusives, isn't helping. The key bit of news above is that PS4 is selling more compared to last year, while Xbox One and WiiU are selling less YOY.
So now, in Feb, PS4 has outsold Xbox 1 nearly 3:1, or 2.902:1 if you want to be pedantic. I still believe this will pass 3:1 one Uncharted 4 hits. Let's see if the Gears of War 4 and Quantum Break releases can curve this trend.
