Report: Ouya Looking for a Buyer

Report: Ouya Looking for a Buyer - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 28 April 2015 / 4,487 Views

Android console maker Ouya is looking for a buyer after it failed to restructure its debt, according to an email sent out from CEO Julie Uhrman to investors and advisers.

Mesa Global, the investment bank, will be managing the process. This is the same firm that previously managed the sale of Songza to Google.

"Our focus now is trying to recover as much investor capital as possible," said Uhrman in the email. "We believe we’ve built something real and valuable. I continue to read the tweets and emails of our fans who play OUYA every day, and our catalog is now over 1,000 apps and 40,000 developers. We have the largest library of Android content for the TV."

Thanks Fortune.

I found $5, a cool looking rock and a piece of string in my pocket. Think they'll trade the company for it?

It's a solid maybe.

Sold to Reimtime, they can use the $5 to come up with a new kickstarter idea to rival some giant industry for 1m, they can use the cool looking rock to smash any remaining Ouya systems they find in their office and the piece of string to make really tiny nooses for themselves.

Money is made from paper, a rock is made from rock, and strings are cut by scissors.... I just thought of the greatest kickstarter idea guys!

You're losing more than you're gaining.

They're trying to recover as much of their investor capital as possible.... but... wait their main investor was 8m from Kickstarter goons wasn't it? so basically what they want to do is get back some of the money they were handed to make the project and then cash out with that? Sad times when they know they had the most money they'd ever have the day before they got to work.

I'll trade my Wii U for your company.

bad deal, a Wii-U is worth far more than that on ebay.

Why would anyone want to buy Ouya? Nintendo already is expanding into the mobile space. Sony is crushing the home console market. Microsoft is unifying their PC and home console market, via Windows cross-connectivity. Steam already has the foothold in PC gaming. I just don't see there really being that much market space for Ouya and I see even attractiveness of the Ouya as an asset.

Am I wrong?

OUYA was a really neat little system, that just had its own marketing and its launch against it. After that, a lot of fixes for both development tools and interface just didn't happen fast enough.

Too bad, but they did give it a run for the money. So far they are hosting over 1100 games, many of them quite entertaining indie projects that I wouldn't have played otherwise.

Says it all, sadly.

it's not even true if you have any android device that can be viewed on a phone.

No sane person would buy this trainwreck. The only good outcome that could be had in buying this, is so you can declare bankruptcy. Which when you think about it, is not such a good idea after all. Moving on.

Any players who want to get into the gaming market (maybe Google or Amazon) would NOT do it by buying Ouya.
