Sony's eighth generation dedicated gaming handheld, the PlayStation Vita, has sold more than 10 million units worldwide since it first launched in December 2011. The PlayStation Vita hit the milestone for the week ending February 14, according to the VGChartz Weekly Chart.

The PlayStation Vita has sold 10,259,178 units worldwide as of the week ending March 21, 2015. The handheld has sold 2,096,078 units in the USA, 3,745,408 units in Japan, and 2,989,484 units in Europe. The Vita has sold 1,428,208 units in the rest of the world.

Looking at retail software sales, four games have sold more than one million units for the PlayStation Vita. Uncharted: Golden Abyss is the best-selling Vita game with sales of 1.43 million units. Assassin's Creed III: Liberation has sold 1.24 million units, while Call of Duty Black Ops: Declassified has sold 1.22 million units. LittleBigPlanet Vita is the one other game to sell over one million units, with 1.08 million units sold.

The PlayStation Vita first launched in Japan on December 17, 2011. It was later released on February 15 in North America and February 22 in Europe.

I've had my PS Vita for almost 3 weeks now and I really enjoy it so far. I wish it was selling better.

The Vita is in my opinion the best console to fail.

outselling the Wii-u by 10k this week so it actually has started to pick up a little bit of steam, was lucky to top 20k/weekly for most of last year.

If you like steam dig you should definitely check out Rogue Legacy from the store Wyluzuj, it was a psn+ game a couple of months ago, great title.

It has been available a lot longer but that said it's outselling the wii-u on a weekly basis now. Great little come back kid considering the weekly sales are up 10k since last year.

It is a nifty system. But it seems like it is overdeveloped for the games that come out on it. It seems like it could do so much more than it does.

Unfortunately for Sony, it has come an age where this manufacturer must truly support its platform, or see them struggle. Gone are the times when Square, Konami and Capcom gave their exclusives for free... Monster Hunter gone to Nintendo is an hard lesson... In the meantime, Vita dies, with no advertising, no killer games and overpriced memory cards...

I quite enjoyed the Vita's core library until Sony dropped it in early 2013. To be fair their financial position was likely the cause, it's a shame as it's a really good system. The indies on it are great but they should of had the larger games alongside them to push the thing. Hope in a few years when Sony are richer they put out another handheld but with proper backing.

Looking back, Vita would have had a good European momentum if they kept supporting it. But dying in the US means dying everywhere else minus Japan, so thanks Murica.

I wonder if the Vita has peaked or if it will have legs? Sony will be hoping for the latter, and it seems highly unlikely that Sony will develop a new handheld.

Took it's time. It's been trying to reach 10 million since last Spring.... so it's sold around 1 million in a year.... that isn't good at all and to be honest Wii U sales have been fighting it out with the Vita and the Wii U really closed the gap in the holiday season. If Wii U starts selling more again, it's not long until it takes over. It's a real shame because the Vita is a decent console still I wonder if Sony even knows it exists sometimes. People might slam me for it, but whatever really. The Vita is 3 years old and I'm still seeing nothing amazing from it.

That last line... actually shocked me.

Wonder if it'll manage 20 million lifetime.

Its taken such a long time to reach 10 million so to be honest I'm not sure. Depends on how they support it in the next few years. I hope Sony does something.

Tbh the Wii U and Vita have really been clashing when it comes to sales, but when it comes to special occasions like the holidays, Wii U tends to sell so much more. Wii U really closed to gap last year and I see it doing the same again this year.
