In this ‘2014 Sales Overview’ article we will be taking a look at the sales of the PlayStation Vita in 2014.
Let’s take a look at the hardware sales of the PlayStation Vita. Sony’s 8th generation handheld sold 2.34 million units worldwide in 2014 to bring its lifetime sales up to 9.59 million units. Hardware sales in 2014 were down 27 percent year-over-year.
Sales for the PlayStation Vita remained between 100,000 and 200,000 units for eight out of 12 months of 2014. It only dipped below 100,000 units once and that was in October where it sold 98,850 units. December was by far the biggest month where it sold 466,659 units. That accounted for 20 percent of the sales in just one month.
Taking a look at the software sales for the PlayStation Vita in 2014 there were 13.94 million games sold worldwide. That is a 26.5 percent increase year-over-year. There have been a total of 34.77 million games sold for the PlayStation Vita. The lifetime attach ratio is 3.6:1
The top selling game for the PlayStation Vita in 2014 was Sony’s own Freedom Wars with sales of 491,871 million units. Final Fantasy X / X-2 HD Remaster was the 2nd bestselling game with sales of 486,232 million units. Minecraft: PlayStation Vita Edition was at number three with sales of 395,823 units.
Borderlands 2 was at number four with sales of 368,699 units. FIFA 15 was at number five with sales of 317,061 units. Killzone: Mercenary was at number six with sales of 301,284 units. LittleBigPlanet Vita was at number seven with sales of 274,852 units.
