3DS Sales Top 50 Million Worldwide, First 8th Gen Console to Hit Milestone - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 15 January 2015 / 6,954 ViewsNintendo's 8th generation handheld, the 3DS, has reached a new milestone to close out 2014. The platform has managed to sell more than 50 million units worldwide. The 3DS is the first platform of the generation to reach the milestone.
Looking back at yearly sales for the handheld, Nintendo sold 12.56 million units in its first year in 2011. In 2012 the 3DS sold 13.48 million, while the handheld peaked in 2013 with sales of 14.37 million units. Nintendo sold 9.56 million 3DS' in 2014.
Nintendo released an updated version of the 3DS, the New Nintendo 3DS, in Japan on October 11, 2014 and on November 21, 2014 in Australia. The New 3DS helped increase sales of the handhelds in Japan to 1.55 million units in the final three months of 2014.
The New Nintendo 3DS will be released in Europe and North America on February 13, 2015.

How did it peak in 2013 with 13.37m when it sold 13.48m in 2012?
Wow that's a huge drop from 2013 to 2014 hopefully it will be up yoy in 2015.
