when are people going to learn the basics about sales taxes?

this deal is crazy compared to the US price as it includes Japan's 10 percent sales tax, so really they are getting the system and the game for only $369 USD versus the US price of $550

using the US to subsidize their Japanese operations and then pretending that they need to raise prices because of the ram and storage situation? clearly the tech in the Switch 2 is quite cheap and they have a lot of space to lower prices

don't buy in the US until you get yours for $399 or less also, that's what many people are waiting for, they don't want to be ripped off

Regional pricing is a thing. Not just for game consoles. Because regional costs also exists.

Yeah I'm sure outside-Japan sales are subsidizing Japan sales, meaning they are selling system at a loss in Japan but for solid profit elsewhere, though RAM/Storage prices are for sure affecting the cost of the system. Though in the US specifically cuz of the dumb tariffs that's probably the least profitable country for S2 other than Japan.

But yeah if Japanese price wasn't subsidized the price elsewhere could be brought down some. But of course we've already seen how sales cratered in Japan when the raised the price.

Probably moreso than US and Europe, Japan is price conscious and looks for an affordable system. Switch was affordable, globally S2 is not. S2 was still very affordable at original price in Japan though, but less so at new higher price. And S2 doesn't yet have any sort of a games library to get people interested at higher prices other than those buying off hype.

You realise PS5 / Digital / Pro are also cheaper in Japan compared to the US, right?

It's been months and we're still having this dumb discussion ? Nintendo is accounting for the cost of living, they're gonna sell Switch 2 in Japan in a matter for which it is as possible for the average japanese person to buy one than for the average european or american

A singular country accounts for roughly 25% of their market share and you'll think they'll sell it at $450/$500 there ? Also, they're definitely not making as much profits selling Switch 2's in western countries as you're trying to pretend. It's especially clear when looking at their financials and how stable they are with 2024, despite way bigger 1st party software sales compared to 2024
