@teamsilent13 - Well your point ignores the genre as whole has seen a massive decline in online play. The games still sell very well, I believe people are just spending less time playing online.

People were focused on Halo's population decline because those numbers were made available on web browsers. Other shooters were also seeing a massive decline in online population, but people wouldn't know unless they actually booted the game. Many games don't even show their population.

For the record, Halo:MCC and CoD:AW don't show the population. I think its because they don't want people analyzing them and presuming the worst.

45k on multiplayer is still better than 20k that Halo 4 pulled. After one year of Halo 4 there was no new Halo. There was no console transition yet to steal from its population. Your example is fine, but it's not a perfect comparison. After one year of COD there is another COD. There should not be five CODs ahead of one Halo. That was the case around Ghost's launch. Four CODs were ahead of Halo 4, and MW2 was so close. I played those older CODs around that time and they pulling over 25k. All of them are going to be decline due to console transition. Halo 4 will probably decline now that MCC is out, but before that there was not much taking away from its current playerbase. Also, I agree you could say all shooters are on decline. BF4 had less sales than BF3. COD is declining, too. The point is that Halo is declining much faster and it's population did not reflect the record launch sales that Halo 4 received and the 9 million+ lifetime units. It was a game that most people I know felt very disappointed with. More than Titanfall or Destiny. I've seen videos by pro players in the MLG community, former machinima directors, and countless forum posts. That's my point.

@teamsilent13 - Now I tried Ghost on the 360. The population is 45K. A far cry from what series used to achieve.

This verifies what I've suspected. Its not just Halo, the population has declined in all console shooters.

Online shooters are still popular. But maybe people are spending less time with them due to fatigue.

I just put in MW3 to see how its population is doing. Nearly 17K in playlists. That's about the same as Halo 4.

It should also be noted older Halo games have a smaller population than old CoD games. The Halo series is still popular. CoD series is just significantly more popular.

Again, you aren't using your head. You're just comparing Halo to the most popular console shooting series in the world.

BTW another thread that I will post when I find shows that those numbers are even greatly increased from their actual population as shown online. It is assumed that the population may include campaign numbers which are not easily tracked, but it is not just multiplayer numbers.

You are delusional. I already gave examples why 5 call of duty games ahead of Halo 4 is not normal for the franchise. http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showthread.php?t=709697

@teamsilent13 - Please use your head. CoD is the most popular shooter, period. Having peaks around 20K is still impressive and most games would love to have it.

Five or six COD games each separately have more players than Halo 4. Like I said all you have to do is look at message boards and everyone who has been with Halo from Halo 2 or earlier will say it's the worse. Halo 4 was a failure and 343i even acknowledged problems which is why Halo 5 looks to be very different and has a year early multiplayer beta. It sold 9 million copies and struggled to hit weekend peaks at 20k. That's not normal for any popular game. Hence why it fell below 5 call of duty titles on the live chart and Majornelson stopped posting the blog because all the comments were bashing Halo 4 and Gears Judgement.

6.41 retail sales alone and the best selling PS4 game to date. Anybody think when the holiday numbers come in, Destiny will be the best seller on X1? I say no. Titanfall will probably move enough numbers to stay ahead of Destiny and Halo Master Chief Collection is going to stall X1 sales of Destiny big time in my opinion. That said, I do think Destiny on the X1 will reach 2 million lifetime sales.

Altogether though, 6.4 million on retail alone is nothing to sneeze at.

@teamsilent13 - Halo 4 was universally hated? I can find many people playing Halo 4 at any given moment. Hyperbole much?

Quite frankly, online shooters aren't as popular as they once were and everybody complains about the most recent game not being as good as the previous games. So let not pretend population decline and complaints are limited to Halo.

Regardless, Halo 4 remains a very popular online shooter. The only games with bigger populations than Halo 4 are also popular games.

I am only speaking on behalf of the majority of the community as seen on youtube, the mlg pro community, ect. You can find countless threads and posts on this topic by googling via neogaf, the official waypoint halo forum, youtube. You don't know what you are talking about because Halo 4's online population and insane dropoff after just a couple months is proof the game was universally hated.

you have such strange logic.
So, you're saying that if I played the Halo games before Reach (which I did), then I should dislike Reach?? Wtf are you on?
You make no sense. Get out of here lol.

destiny isn't good imo either, but damn halo 4 is broken. halo 4 had peaks under 20k in under 6 months when it sold 9 million copies. everyone hated it and you probably never played a halo before reach if you think it's good. it's the worst multiplayer i have ever played but i still had a 5 k/d because it's so broken and overpowered shit wins every time.

At least 5mill sales across all platforms in week one is outstanding! Why on earth activision choose to deliver a press release of how many units sold to retailers is beyond me. Its sold so well they did'nt have to hide behind those fake figures! For good or bad this game is a monster.

@teamsilent13
lol, better than halo 4??
not by a long shot.
halo 4 may have had a divisive mp aspect (which was bungie's foundations with reach to begin with as 343i just continued bungie's reach legacy), but halo 4's campaign was easily one of the best of the series.

destiny had no story, its mp is barebones, and well, it's really got nothing else good except decent gameplay mechanics.
