Android Activations Reach 700,000 Per Day

Andy Rubin, SVP at Google, has announced that Smart Phones that have the Android OS have hit an all time high in sales. There are over 700,000 activations every day. Rubin said, "we count each device only once (i.e., we don't count re-sold devices), and 'activations' means you go into a store, buy a device, put it on the network by subscribing to a wireless service."

This announcement comes two weeks after the Android Marketplace passed the 10 billion downloads mark.  The current growth rate is at one billion app downloads every single month. It is also in line with quarter three sales for smartphones, as smartphones with the Android OS have outsold all other smartphone OS's combined.

Google had originally said that there were 550,000 Android activations in July, which means that the average increase per month is at 30,000.

well considering there are huge amount of android phones, i would really call this surprising.
