The Japan Preview: 8/7/11 Edition (Epic Mickey, others) - News
by VGChartz Staff , posted on 08 August 2011 / 5,300 ViewsPreliminary Japanese figures for the week to August 7, 2011 have arrived. It was another strong week, particularly for Wii, DS, and PSP, which each saw new games open at over 50,000 units. The top fifteen games for the week were:
1) Atsumete! Kirby (DS) - 99,000
2) Tokio: Gourmet Survival (PSP) - 97,000
3) J-League Pro Soccer Club o Tsukurou! 7 Euro Plus (PSP) - 89,000
4) All Kamen Rider: Rider Generation (DS) - 59,000
5) Disney Epic Mickey (Wii) - 52,000
6) Rhythm Heaven Wii (Wii) - 48,000
8) Taiko no Tatsujin Portable DX (PSP) - 22,000
8) Family Fishing (Wii) - 22,000
9) Jikkyou Powerful Pro Yakyuu 2011 (PS3) - 16,000
10) Inazuma Eleven Strikers (Wii) - 14,000
11) Fermi Naju 3: Apostle of Darkness (PSP) - 11,000
12) Queen's Gate: Spiral Chaos (PSP) - 10,000
15) Storm Lover (PSP) - 7,000
15) Goldeneye 007 (Wii) - 7,000
15) Wii Play: Motion (Wii) - 7,000
In addition to the games above, Pokemon Black / White (DS), Operation Flashpoint: Red Driver (PS3), Danball Senki (PSP), Puyo Puyo!! Anniversary (DS), and The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D (3DS) should also chart in the final top twenty.
This week marks the bottom of 3DS hardware sales - as the price cut comes next week alongside the first Pokemon-branded title for 3DS. Whatever the 3DS baseline is this week will determine, to some degree, how high the revitalizing is in future weeks. DS and PSP also had strong software releases this week, making it even more likely that 3DS dropped sharply this week, probably to well under 10,000 units. The Kirby game on DS likely marks the last major Nintendo-published title for the platform, just before the DS turns seven years old in Japan. PSP in the wake of its major new titles this week, and the big price cut for 3DS next week, should also die down a fair amount in the coming weeks.
Wii also had a decent week for software, with Epic Mickey opening well under Nintendo's publishing label. Inazuma Eleven and Rhythm Heaven have also continued to hold up fairly well. With no major PS3 software this week, Wii could actually be over 20,000 units again and slightly ahead of PS3 for the week. Monster Hunter Portable 3 HD Edition (August) and Tales of Xillia should allow PS3 to generally sell more than Wii in the coming weeks though, as Wii doesn't have much announced for release at the moment between Zelda (end of 2011) and Dragon Quest Collection (Sept), although Just Dance 2 and others are known to be coming. Square-Enix did confirm FFXIII-2 will release in Japan by year end in December, so at the very least December PS3 sales should be up on last year's mediocre figures.

Mugen, I have an honest question for you - why are you still here? No, I don't mean VGCHartz, I mean the Japan Preview. You have repeatedly voiced your opinion on the preview - it is strongly biased and practically worthless as far as you are concerned, ok, we got it - so why don't you leave the Preview alone to those that do enjoy it for what it is, a preview based on a small sample from a single store, that is obviously skewed often (just imagine US numbers based only on a single chain, even as large as Walmart) but more often than some would like to admit correct on many numbers, though not all?
He's not mad that the numbers are inaccurate so much as it seems like PS3 and Wii are held to different standards. He's claiming that if both systems sold badly, the term used to describe the Wii sales would be nicer than the term used for the PS3. If PS3 does 10,000, it's had a "pretty low" week, but if Wii does 10,000 it's "not bad considering the market climate" or something lol. I tend to agree, it seems like they're is a bit of bias there. But really the chart entertains me for the week between numbers, so it's okay that the numbers are off a lot.
ugh just skewed? >_> aren't we optimistic around here
hey listen, don't get me wrong, I'm not 'angry' or anything of the sort about the preview. In fact I find it amusing week after week :) it never fails me on that department. the point I usually make is that this preview is so
biased that it will take a completely blind person to deny that. and I'm not talking about numbers alone either. If they were hit or miss occasionally I wouldn't care much at all and most probably won't even visit these articles. But week after week, this has become the nintendo preview or the my-wish-list-for-everything-that-is-good-for-nintendo OR like this week for example, why when the competition is kicking the crap out of my fave company I find some way or the other to downplay them while the tiniest news about ninty is great news even when its not
so in summary
- I don't hate the preview...I find it rather funny and enjoyable every week. I will miss it if it were to be gone..like I miss selnor at times
- the whole article reeks of bias and attempts to downplay others, fact.
- Source needs a new Source, one that doesn't overestimate ninty and underestimate sony..weekly
- please reply to my comment next time if you have a Q, I almost didn't see this one
FFXII-2 will be huge. Hope it will be better than FF13 though!
it seems that this week we will see alot of Wii software in the list
nice wii and ds numbers... even if the numbers are within that 15% range...
I think you have Rhythm Heaven numbers way off :/
x x x x games for wii are releasing so it should do great x x games for ps3 are releasing so it should do ok compared to last year. speaking of mediocre, don't remember preview using the term on wii sales this year, then again that might be too nice lol
I'll wait for MC numbers for proper, accurate numbers but this week I am keeping an eye on Toriko numbers with great interest.
