Overview
There is one game in the top 20 to be in its final week before launch, Catherine (PS3). The top five games include Gears of War 3 (X360), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360), Battlefield 3 (X360), Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3), and The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360). The top 16 games have 100,000 or more pre-orders, the same as last week. Three games add 50,000 or more pre-orders, up from one last week and six add 20,000 or more, up from three last week.
Games in final week before launch
There is one game in their final week before launch, Catherine (PS3). The game is at number 20 as it adds 16,000 pre-orders for a grand total of 80,000. Expect first week sales in the Americas to be in the 120,000 to 160,000 unit range. The Xbox 360 version is outside the top 20 at number 32. The game adds 8,000 pre-orders for a total of 45,000. Expect first week sales in the America to be in the 60,000 to 90,000 unit range.
Other Hot Games
Gears of War 3 (X360) is at the top as it adds 30,000 pre-orders down from 53,000 the previous week. The game currently sits at 1.22 million pre-orders. The game is nine weeks away from launch, on September 20 in America and EMEAA and September 22 in Japan. Gears of War 3 for the first time added less pre-orders than Halo: Reach during the same number of weeks before launch.
Battlefield 3 (X360) is at number three as it adds 53,000 pre-orders, up from 19,000 last week, for a total of 310,000. The PlayStation 3 version is up one spot to number 10 as it adds 17,000 pre-orders, up from 10,000 last week, for a total of 157,000. The game is 14 weeks away from launch, October 25 in America and October 28 in EMEAA.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (X360) is the second most pre-ordered game and it also adds most pre-orders. The game adds 72,000 pre-orders, up from 29,000 pre-orders the previous week. The game currently has 604,000 pre-orders and is 16 weeks away from launch, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. Call of Duty: Black Ops (X360) the game with the biggest opening in gaming history, didn’t reach the same number of pre-orders until it was nine weeks away from launch.
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 (PS3) is at number four as it adds 20,000 pre-orders this week, up from 17,000 last week. The game is currently at 256,000 pre-orders and will launch in 17 weeks, November 8 in both America and EMEAA. Call of Duty: Black Ops (PS3) the game with the biggest opening for the PlayStation 3, didn’t have at least the same number of pre-orders until it was 11 weeks away from launch.
Also in the top 10: The Elder Scrolls V: Skyrim (X360) is at number five as it adds 20,000 pre-orders, up from 15,000 last week, for a total of 240,000. The game is 16 weeks away from launch, November 11 in both America and EMEAA.
Madden NFL 12 (X360) jumps up two spots to number six as it adds 51,000 pre-orders, up from 21,000 last week, for a total of 209,000. The game is six weeks away from launch, August 30 in America and September 2 in EMEAA.
Assassin’s Creed: Revelations (X360) is down one spot to number seven, as it adds 32,000 pre-orders, up from 11,000 last week, for a total of 205,000. The game is 17 weeks away from launch, November 15 in America and EMEAA.
Madden NFL 12 (PS3) is up one spot to number eight as it adds 28,000 pre-orders, up from 18,000 last week, for a total of 170,000. The game is six weeks away from launch.
Mass Effect 3 (X360) is down two spots to number nine as it adds 8,000 pre-orders, the same as last week, for a total of 168,000. The game is 33 weeks away from launch, March 6, 2012 in America and March 9, 2012 in EMEAA.
Notable mentions outside the top 10: Uncharted 3: Drake’s Deception (PS3) adds 8,000 pre-orders for a total of 146,000. Batman: Arkham City (X360) adds 11,000 pre-orders for a total of 131,000.
Requests from last week’s article for games that are not in the top 20: Forza Motorsport 4 (X360) adds 10,000 pre-orders for a total of 67,000. Dark Souls (PS3) adds 5,000 pre-orders for a total 66,000. Dark Souls (X360) adds 2,000 pre-orders for a total 26,000. Resistance 3 (PS3) adds 5,000 pre-orders for a total of 54,000.

an would it be possible to have an uncharted 2 vs uncharted 3 chart?
I second this with a thumbs up and a reply. Although I think uncharted 2 didn't show up in the top 20 until 10 or so weeks before launch and it only had 188,000 preorders 1 week before launch. So U3 is way ahead right now but I still want to see a chart so it's more convenient then going back and forth between pages.
Yes I would like to see that chart also. So I second the second seconding of that request.
That would humiliate Uncharted 2. Didn't UC2 launch with under 200k Americas Pre-orders? Uncharted 2 refined, and hyped up the franchise. It would be a no contest win for UC3.

Yes it would humiliate it because U2 didn't even enter the charts until 5 weeks until launch. Also it had 188,000 according to vgchartz. And even with those numbers U2 sold over 400,000 units first week and went to sell 2.5 million units worldwide in 10 weeks. I have no worry for U3 in that it will sell 600,000 or more units first week in the Americas alone and predict it will sell 1.5 first week world wide.
But the only reason we want a chart is so we can accurately see how far U3 is ahead of U2. I have an idea of how much U3 is ahead but i want a chart to confirm it. So please vgchartz make a chart PLEASE. I don't even know if they read replies.

Looking at this list what I find most depressing: COD:MW3 (PS3) = 256k @ 16 weeks whilst Uncharted 3 = 146k @ 15 weeks
Catherine seems to be getting a lot more preorders than I anticipated. Perhaps the game will be a sleeper hit for Atlus and help bring them to the mainstream. Alot of Japanese developers have been failing in creativity lately, but Atlus is not one of them.
Also it seems that more and more multi-platform games are being primarily bought for the PS3 compared to the Xbox 360. I guess having one Blu-ray compared to multiple DVDs is great. Although most of these are for Japanese developed games. North American/European developed multi-platform games still seem to sell more on Xbox 360.
I think the reason uncharted is so low is because naughty dog have yet to show any mind-blowing single player footage like the one they showed at e3 2009. That was just amazing. All we've seen is the boat level and the burning chateau and while both look amazing and the water and fire physics and animation were incredible, nothing has been as mind-blowing as the e3 2009 footage. So I genuinely believe that if they released a couple of epic single player trailers, the preorders will increase dramatically because single player footage is what everyone is waiting for to push them to preorder. Although I'm not preordering this game I am getting it day one and playing the he'll out of it for a month until I get assassins creed.
This may just be me trying to make excuses but U2 preorders picked up when they show the train level and a lot of other amazing footage. The one thing I don't want is the whole game spoiled by single player footage.

So Dark Souls is tracking almost exactly at a 70/30 pre-order split in favor of the PS3. Pretty much what I was expecting actually and considering it is a new IP for the 360 and its users are primarily having to rely on word of mouth I'm thinking those are pretty solid numbers.

How about you look up uncharted 2 preorder numbers a week before launch. They were at 188,000 and U3 is only 40,000 away and I guarantee that U3 will have 300,000 or more preorders a week before release, only if preorders pick up closer to release like most games do. So that would be what maybe 500,000 or more sales first week in Americas alone.
