Nintendo: 3DS Highest Sales for Any Nintendo Handheld in History

Nintendo of America said in a statement that the 3DS already has the highest day one result for any of their handhelds in history.

The company has yet to release official sales numbers. They are waiting for NPD to tally first-week sales.

The official statement is below.

"U.S. day-one sales numbers for Nintendo 3DS were the highest of any Nintendo hand-held system in our history. More details about U.S. sales numbers will be made public on April 14, when first-week U.S. sales figures will be tallied by the independent NPD Group. Nintendo worked hard to get as much product as possible to retailers on day one to meet demand, and we will continue with these efforts moving forward."

Seeing how well the original DS did, it wouldn’t surprise me if Nintendo does set records for most handhelds sold in its first week in history. Assuming they can keep up with demand of course.

Anyone here who bought theirs on day one? I personally am waiting for more games to come out before I pick one up.

@joelcool7 theres no reason to buy the hardware without software to use... besides if i wait for software i might be able to wait it out until ngp releases and see what that has for me. then i have choice ... :) im not really hurting for another handheld at the moment anyways, psp still has a few games that are yet to release that i want, there are still some ds games that i might want to play through also

Our stock and other Wal-Mart stock isn't really moving. I'm guessing they set a record in pre-orders and thats why the numbers are so high. In the long run? It's gonna take a game like Mario or Pokemon to move units or a price drop.

Today is hardly day 1, and anecdotal evidence is worth nothing I know, but at Best Buy today there was a whole table of them sitting out, and nobody seemed to notice them. Nintendo must have shipped a ton of units because I was shocked to see it just sitting there and not sold out. I walked up and was able to pick up the box and everything. I love that blue color.

I got Mine on the first Day . I got 4 games for it to date..... Let me all tell you Do yourself a favor and buy Ridge Racer 3D . Nintendo will revitelise the Racer industry with this thing. Holly Ballz !!! Im not a huge fan of racers but this thing was built for them

I bought mine day one with Rayman and Ghost Recon. This device is amazing you gotta pick one up. if you are waiting for games why bother not picking it up now, your going to get it anyways for the same price. Its not like Nintendo is going to cut the price until the next model comes out in two or so years.

With such news and now that NPD forbids publishing of its data, I feel sorry for gaming sites that censor any reference to VGC and its numbers... :-P

So if they say about their system, PSP sold more first week?

Aiddon (on 29 March 2011)

doesn't surprise me considering how Nintendo has had a stranglehold on the handheld market for over two decades
