Video: Gabe Newell Avoids Counter-Strike 2 Question

by Harry Monogenis, posted on 07 March 2011 / 2,231 Views

When an interviewer asked Gabe Newell whether or not Valve will be making the much asked for Counter-Strike 2 during this year's GDC, he wasn't exactly willing to drop any details.

In the video below, you can clearly see Newell, the villain of our little tale, not wanting to share any details regarding its existence. But if you think about it, if Valve currently have no plans making Counter-Strike 2, wouldn't Gabe Newell have told the audience that, simply put, there are no plans for it, instead of:

"We have to ship Portal 2 and Dota 2, and then we'll worry about Counter-Strike 2." Oh well, at least he said "Counter-Strike 2", that alone made Counter-Strike fans' faces across the globe light up.

Oh wow i havent thought about CS in a long time. The pinnacle of my PC-FPS days. I would love to see what new things they can add for CS2

The interviewer had to be a total n00b: it'd just have taken to bribe him with a double cheeseburger and fries to make him spill the beans!

@Pr1mus don't forget 2011 Dota 2

@viperlegendkiller 2004 Half-Life 2 2006 Episode 1 2007 Episode 2, Team Fortress 2, Portal 2008 Left 4 Dead 2009 Left 4 Dead 2 2011 Portal 2 Not that bad for a company with 250 employees. Actually the amount of content they created especially when counting all the updates for TF2 and the L4D games is freaking impressive considering how small the actual dev team is.

imagine if bungie was like this company taking 10 years between halos doing nothing

Gabe Newell. Like all guys, Bobby Kotick included, is a very nice guy in person. That being said, if it was not for Steam and Kotick taking all the heat and criticism for Blizzard's geriatric development cycle, Gabe Newell would be the most hated man in PC gaming. Ever since Half-Life 2, Newell has not only dropped the ball, but has lost it so bad he needs a new ball to replace the old one. A company built off the backs of Half-Life, Counter-Strike, and Half-Life 2 is mortgaging it's future on a game (Portal 2) whose predecessor was never released stand-alone in retail and an add-on for Warcraft 3. If you thought Activision-Blizzard has lost it's goddang mind, exhibit A in our "sell-out" show is Gabe Newell and his company Valve.

@Kantor That's called Left 4 Dead.

Pr1mus (on 07 March 2011)

Every time someone ask him this question he should just point them towards the stats page on steam. CS 1.6 and Source both have as many players as Black Ops and MW2 combined. He's probably too "busy" working on Episode 3 at the moment.

LMAO VGCHARTZ, that is not an "interviewer", that is the CEO of Intel. NICE JOURNALISM. hahahaha

I predict that when CS2 is released the community will split again with 1/3 on CS 1.6, 1/3 on CSS and 1/3 on CS2.

Yes, but Counter Strike is a zombie apocalypse just waiting to rise and obliterate Call of Duty with its dark power.

PC Gaming is dead! CS burns in the dust while COD rules the world!
