DICE 2011 Interview: Zynga's Brian Reynolds on Social Gaming

by Chris Arnone, posted on 24 February 2011 / 789 Views

Brian Reynolds was the first guy we interviewed at DICE 2011. He's the Chief Game Designer for Zynga, the studio behind Farmville, Cityville, and Frontierville.  He was a great conversationalist with very insightful views not only on Social Networking games, but gaming in general. Though being our first interview, we ran into some technical glitches in the filming, so please excuse the changing aspect ratio and strange skip in the middle.

Ladies and gentlemen, Brian Reynolds:

What's your opinion on Social Networking games? Are they the next great thing in video games?

Probably best they stick to facebook / mobile games since they would probably fail at producing a viable home console/ handheld game (or at least to any success they had on facebook/mobile). Never played any of their games and never will (since I deleted facebook) so I can't comment on the quality. However, they do have millions of facebook people playing their games....
