Nintendo: 3DS' 3D Warning Label There to Stave Off Lawsuits
by Carlos Macias, posted on 11 January 2011 / 1,860 ViewsSo, is 3D good or bad for you? According to the official word from Nintendo, 3D may have a negative effect on children under 6, especially when using the company's upcoming portable, the 3DS. Reports by eye specialists, though, have been coming in saying that the contrary is true: that 3D effects don't necessarily cause visual complications in the young.
Whoever you believe, doesn't matter seems to be the case as Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata says that the warning is simply a means to inform parents about potential negative effects to 3D viewing and to -- quite frankly -- stay off the lawsuit track.
"They're not meant to mean that game systems are dangerous," Andriasang translated from a Wall Street Journal interview with Iwata, "Rather, Nintendo hopes to give its customers adequate information and protect against lawsuits."
"Nintendo very actively attempts to share information with its customers," Iwata continued. "Outside of this goal, it would never issue a warning that would not lead to a plus in sales."
Who do you guys believe? Will you let your child near a 3DS with all the conflicting reports on the potential side effects of using the technology? Child-free? Feel free to profess your own fears of 3D screens taking over the world in the comments, as well.
