RPG Masochists Rejoice! Demon's Souls Servers Extended Again - News

Atlus's Demon's Souls, the brutally hard but much loved RPG for the PS3, is getting its servers extended yet again. From Atlus's tongue-in-cheek press release:
"We've said it before and we'll say it again," commented Aram Jabbari, Manager of PR and Sales at Atlus. "We will support the online servers for Demon's Souls as long as we possibly can, and we'll be as transparent about the entire process as possible, hence us constantly updating folks as to what to expect. That said, we're starting to think..." he murmured before leaning closer, "the servers may have taken on a bit of a... life of their own. Have you played the game? It's not just one of the most brilliant roleplaying games ever made; it's darn challenging, too. It's starting to feel like even if we wanted to, we couldn't shut things down." He leaned even closer: "Honestly, we're more worried the servers will shut us down than the other way around," he whispered before leaning back and laughing aloud nervously.
They're also announcing the "Pure White Tendency Event" which will start December 20 and run just into early 2011. The event will allow new players to come into the game easier as well as providing Demon's Souls veterans with some new challenges.

I have the game and the guide, but haven't even had time to try it. I may pull it out this weekend and at least start reading the manual. I really won't be able to play it under after the new year because I'll be working. Making that do-ray-me money.

Sony's policy is to not pay for servers for 3rd party games. When they shut down, they're down for good. On the bright side Demon's Souls 2 is coming anyway, so people can always just move to that. But yeah, they'll be shut down eventually. Atlus isn't a company with much money, and servers are expensive.

I hate the trend of online games being "shut down"... though it's nice to see altus is a dedicated company.
it seems obvious though xD , even if they DO shut down Sony is going to take over anyways, so there is no worries.
Ok, I'll get it now. I was afraid the servers would shut in March, now I have no more excuse
hardest part about getting platinum is the fact you need to play through the game 4 times, and everything is tougher each time through :P (but to be honest, once you learn all the levels and crap it really isn't as challenging as the first time through) Whats nice is that even if they shut the servers down, its not like you cant play the game anymore, you just wont be able to pvp etc... which would suck but at least its not the end of the world....
Oh... that game is sooo good... sadly I never got to play through it...
I hope I will get my hands on it again and then, if the servers are down they give you the ability to host your own...

Not completely related, considering how different this is... But I don't remember seeing the threat of servers shutting down on PC (except for MMOs) - it's only on consoles. If you get servers, they will get shut down eventually. And if not, well, you get more limited p2p.
Anyway, great news. Now if I could only get the same some time soon...

I hate this game!
These tendency events make it really easy to get the platinum. Lucky me played the asian edition and got stuck manipulating tendencies back and forth to get items.
