Game-Breaking Bug in Metroid: Other M Discovered

by VGChartz Staff, posted on 18 September 2010 / 2,589 Views

It's always depressing to see issues like this come to light.

According to IGN, a bug has become known in Metroid: Other M that forces players to restart their game if an earlier save is not available.

IGN describes the glitch as such: "If the door on the far side of the lava pit in Sector 3 after you leave the desert refinery via the elevator is red, you're stuck."

Knightwing Reviews has a video up of the glitch, which can be seen below. Knightwing Reviews state the glitch occurs when the game is saved directly after fighting the area boss for the third time. Considering how many people save immediately after boss battles to save themselves the trouble of having to fight the boss again, this could turn into a widespread problem.

Nintendo is aware of the problem and has offered no advice other than loading an older save or starting the game over, according to IGN.

It's a shame to see such one of Nintendo's primary franchises being hit by a bug of this magnitude. Keep your save files separate, and be sure to go through that door after beating the boss.

Luckly this never happened to me; mostly because after I beaten the boss, I just kept on advancing until I came across the next save point. Besides, this wasn't the first time this has happened to a metroid game.

Well I'm glad taht never happened to me.

There's no patch upgrade for Wii games either. Shame on u Nintendo!

Malstrom must be gloating and chuckling to himself like a lunatic! :-D

VG news is late. I usually get my news from other sites now.

There is another glitch that I encountered last week while playing the game. I think should post that video on youtube to show you guys... It was kinda stupid too. I couldnt go further because of it and had to reset. Luckily it wasnt from the beginning ;D

Evil glitch! On another point, why are VGChartz news so slow? This was rolling around like 2 days ago. It happens with lot's of others new as well. I understand if it because you concentrate more in the sales side of the things...

Like everybody knows about this know. Pretty late VG.

Yeah, I read about that glitch days ago. In fact, I thought I had found it and restarted the game--only to later find out that I just didn't know where the fuck I was going. Since then, I made a copy of my game every time i played. I never found it, though. There were a few doors that stayed red for longer than they should have, though. I guess it was loading the next room.

Copy your file over to another slot and voila it should work.

I never thought Nintendo could be evil but forcing you to replay Samus: Mother Hen's story is pretty low. I blame Team Ninja. They made Samus a girl, wtf?

Killiana1a (on 18 September 2010)

Maybe Sakamoto intended for the player to have Samus show the red door some motherly love.

Salnax (on 18 September 2010)

Because this game didn't ALREADY have enough negative publicity...

SSDNINJA (on 18 September 2010)

@fwap What DSGirl is saying in that link appears to be what I reported, unless I'm really missing something. Is this different than what Knightwing Reviews revealed in the article?

fwap (on 18 September 2010)

In fact it has already been revealed what is PRECISELY the cause of the glitch... http://gonintendo.com/viewstory.php?id=136582

fwap (on 18 September 2010)

Wow. This is pretty old news.

SSDNINJA (on 18 September 2010)

The fellow on the video suggested keeping a save separate on an SD card

wfz (on 18 September 2010)

How do you keep your save-states separate? It gives you no option; it auto saves.

LordTheNightKnight (on 18 September 2010)

Replacement discs worked for a similar glitch in Twilight Princess.

Majin-Tenshinhan (on 18 September 2010)

That's terrible. It's too bad when stuff like this slips through, but I guess there's really nothing to be done... A patch would be nice, but if I recall correctly, Wii can't support patches, can it?
