UK Retailer Confirms Three New HD PS2 Collections
by Arthur Kabrick, posted on 18 September 2010 / 3,357 ViewsThe announcement of the Team ICO Collection at Sony's TGS conference brought the total number of planned HD collections to three, the first two being the God of War Collection and the upcoming Sly Collection. So far, all collections revealed have been from PS2-exclusive series. But that is looking to change.
According to British retailer Zavvi, Splinter Cell Trilogy will launch in late November, Mortal Kombat HD Classics in early December, and Prince of Persia Trilogy in March of next year. There is no sign of any of these games when using the site's search engine; the direct link is the only way to access the listings. For this reason, we can neither confirm nor deny the existence of Xbox 360 versions of these collections.
Splinter Cell and Prince of Persia are selling for the discounted price of £24.95, and Mortal Kombat for near-full-price at £34.95. Most new games sell for £37.95 on Zavvi.

this is a load of rubbish, I have a Xbox 360 and all the backward compatible games are in HD, so whats the big deal.
Weezy about the collection selling well or not, we don't know. But as long as it makes a substantial profit while exposing the developers name and games, them more power to them and us as well.
Nintari, what if the game was redesigned to be in both 16:9 ratio AND HD? And I'm a collector as well. But if I think a game is good enough, I'll replay it while I might be worth the extra price tag to play it in 16:9 ratio and HD depending on the game.
Can't imagine any of these "classics" selling very well. Well good luck
"ethomaz 2 hours ago Soul Reaver Collection... this is must to have and not theses three from news." This this this. Of course Legacy of Kain and Soul Reaver are PS1 so they just need a PS one classics release. It would be too much of a total remake to put them into HD, though I wonder if they could be put onto a collection Blu-ray and just have trophies added.
@KylieDog: Some are on TheHut too... http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/ps3/team-ico-ico-shadow-of-the-colossus-hd/10269048.html http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/ps3/splinter-cell-trilogy-hd-collection/10239117.html http://www.thehut.com/games/platforms/ps3/mortal-kombat-hd-classics/10239872.html
For the true "collector" such as myself, these are worthless. If all you're looking for is to just play the game, then yeah, great but a collector always wants the originals. Personally, playing old games like Sonic Adventure off XBL and SOTC on an HD TV, with HD graphics kills the experience. These games were made 4:3, in SD to be played on SD televisions. That's how they were intended to be experienced. It's like playing Mario 3 on the virtual console.....it's no where near as cool and fun as playing it on an actual NES, hooked up to and old CRT.
im glad there no backwards compatability for the ps3 if games like shadow of the colossus get an overhaul in the graphics department, added trophies, smoother game play and online support "how many xbox origonals still have servers available for them", when will you 360 fanboys get it into your retarded brains that theses games are still wanted and improvements made to the gameplay graphics and added bonuses like trophies warrents the asking price (go ahead and buy the old SDTV res games with your backwards compatable console only when you accept that untill there re released and remastered backwards complatability sucks balls and adds nothing to the old games).
lol @ all the 360 fan nerds, you gotta be the biggest buch of hypocrites on this site, in fact on any site, i guess you lot are that dumb that you forgot microsoft released loads of old games on XBL "xbox origonals" lol so please do carry on OWNING your selfs its really funny watching you retards make complete tits of your selfs, lol backwards compatable but just cause microsoft diddnt make enough money out of its old software they put loads on XBL and diddnt do anything to improve the graphics or add achievements in fact they did nothing to them and charged like £10 for an old game that you could get second hand on a car boot sale for 50p, again lol at you ignorent 360 fail boys OWNED.
Soul Reaver Collection... this is must to have and not theses three from news.
@snesboy Some of us do, though it's obvious that many of those who hate these collections do not even hava a ps3, so why the hate? How does it affect you? I never got to play the Prince of Persia games and now I can do so in HD with trophies.
These collctions were added to zavvi after a source-less rumour of them cropped upon the net several months ago. Zavvi does that, makes listing based on rumour games, credible rumour or not.
It's a smart move. Nintendo has already proved countless times that this is a big cash-cow. I still can't figure out why Microsoft has figured this one out.
Gotta love the Sony marketing team. Hey lets stop making backward compatible systems wait till many of them are broken due to ylod then we'll resell all our old games again. I mean why make new games when you can polish the old ones a bit and sell again.
hmm results seem mixed over this, but I think it is soo awesome. I love trophies and I never got to play some of these games when they were new. Also, I tried to go back and play SotC a while back and it looked so bad (through my bc 60 gig) so bring on these compilations. I will pick up the prince of persia one. Is that 3 platinums for one disc?
Where is my Final Fantasy X Collection? :( Anyways, its cool that the "Classics HD" idea worked :) Way to go, developers!
@hiroko: I think it's the developers who make these games, not Sony. So don't blame them if they want to bring these games with trophy support and in HD.
i like the idea of many collection's, just think about 20 (with 2-3 Games) Collections with former Must Have Games. So, as long as there are more Original High Quality Games out as collections are coming, it is a great idea, and may even bump the Hardware Sales.
How fortunate that Sony removed backwards compatibility from the PS3! Now they and 3rd parties can repackage their PS2 games to sell again.
the MK ones seems kinda pointless if the newer one seems the same but endless times better.
