Zelda Wii - New Info - E3 2010 Reveal? - News

by VGChartz Staff , posted on 18 November 2009 / 20,631 Views

Any news about the upcoming Legend of Zelda game for Wii is sure to get people excited. But the news that the series will be experiencing some changes... A "new structure"... Could get some people worried.

In a recent interview the Producer of Zelda Wii, Eiji Aonuma, has said the game will feature significant changes from other Zelda games.

"It is something we used to talk about with Mr Miyamoto, and he and I agree that if we are following the same structure again and again, we might not be able to give long time Zelda fans a fresh surprise."

"So we have been trying something new in terms of the structure of the Wii version of the new Zelda game this time. I am really hopeful that people will be surprised with the changes we have implemented for this Wii version."

He also revealed that the Zelda team hopes to have the game ready to be shown off at next years E3 show. Probably a trailer, but gameplay is a possibility.

"I hope that we can show you something at the E3 show next year and it is something we are hopeful will be surprising."

The full interview will be available to read in the newest edition of Official Nintendo Magazine when it releases on December 18th.

I think part of the change could be a first person view point.

Structural changes are also welcome-more challenging, less routine boss battles and less reliance on items for puzzles would be great.

More emphasis on characters and side quests (like MM, but still with a long central narrative) would also be great.

Looks like E3 2010 is going to give us the answers...

Change is the only way to go, great news! TP basically tried hard to be OOT, which is FAIL, great game though.

  • Some old formulas MUST go away, like the "enter dungeon, get item, use item to beat boss", i mean LOL, it's just so obvious it's embarassing. And the bosses usually are jokes, just soo easy, only a few hits with the "new" item and it's finito. Also the puzzles must be harder.

  • It should be outside Hyrule.

  • More side-quests, advanced ones, like the Kafei one in MM.

  • Items should be used more often, in TP some items are rarely needed.

  • Mario Galaxy quality music.

  • Many sword techniques, TP had some, the next one should have more.

Anyway it should be great, epic, since they say it will be different. :)

Ahh, Nintendo is going the way of SE. Announcing an announcment FTW!!!

senseinobaka (on 19 November 2009)

I see Twilight Princess as the end of an era. Just like ALTTP was the culmination of the 2-D style overhead view Zeldas, TP is the culmination of the OoT-style Zeldas. Nintendo is right; it is time to move on. And Eji Anomua is the guy that is innovative and competent enough to do it. Majora's Mask proved that.

The next Zelda will be mission based, offer cooperative multiplayer with either no HUB or some mini HUB town. Zelda: Monster Hunter :P

Honestly I want Link to fight giant monster like a baddass from Shadows of the Collosus. I personally never like the 3 repeat pattern.

uno (on 19 November 2009)

Ugh. Why do people want to keep playing the same game over and over again? I love that they are changing it up a bit.

Twilight Princess was good but if they can add some refreshing gameplay I am definitely interested.

i don't think fans want change. I know i don't i'd prefer if they just improved apon what's already been established

Zelda wii will be HUGE no doubts and VIVA ALGERIA WE ARE THE CHAMPIONSSSSSSS

Podings (on 19 November 2009)

I have a feeling this "new" thing will come as somewhat of a left hook to most. Sort of like what Wind Waker did.

No matter what they do to it however, I'm up for it, as long as it's full of fun and adventure.

  • 0
Metallicube (on 19 November 2009)

I'm guessing maybe a return to its roots a semi overhead 2-D style (similar to the DS Zeldas) with more focus on exploration and fast paced arcade style gameplay (but still with motion + of course).

  • 0
Aionic_Kid (on 19 November 2009)

Fair enough, as the Zelda series needs another Majora's Mask. Best thought out game structure ever.

Good news all around. Zelds is turning into an RPG, it needs to be more of an Action-Adventure game.

@HelloMotto

its obviously a typo, he meant 2009 because he said Golden Sun anyone? and Mentioned Galaxy 2

@paperdiego

ummm are you kidding? nintendo won 2008 E3? LOL. that E3 was one of the most fail EVER. EVEN more fail than Sony 2006 E3. that conference was just plain embarassing to watch. Wii music, and cammie dunaway ALL that crap. it was ridicilous.

Cool, I will be able to pull out the Master sword lodged in stone like in Link to the Past.

Zelda Wii is going to be huge, at least to the hardcore audience.

BoleroOfFire (on 18 November 2009)

It's only November and this eensy bit of info has all of us hyped for E3 2010. This proves Zelda is simply awesome! I trust any change Nintendo makes to the franchise will be great (see Metroid Prime). As long as it's not a generic RPG like NightDragon described a few posts down. lol

senseinobaka (on 18 November 2009)

God...i dont know why i'm doing this, but here's the E3 09 breakdown

Sony: Uncharted 2(+1) Modnation Racers (+2), God of War 3 (+1), Final Fantasy 14 (+1), Last Gaurdian (+2); PSPgo (-1), Wand and WSR ripoff (-2) overall - good

Nintendo: NSMBWii (+1), Golden Sun (+1), Metroid Other M (+2), Super Mario Galaxy (+2), Bowser Inside Story (+1); Vitality Senor (srsly WTF -2 ) overall good

MS: Natal (+1), Halo: Reach (+1), Alan Wake (+2); Natal software (-2) overall - not good

Man, they really need to start releasing games for wii. I will be done with RE soon and my wii will eat dust again for a long while.

  • 0
SaviorX (on 18 November 2009)

I have faith in Nintendo on this one. Wind Waker was a wild change and it worked out amazingly.

Whatever Nintendo does, I trust it will be good.

rapsuperstar31 (on 18 November 2009)

@Paperdiego
you might be right about the DS with Golden Sun, I don't really pay attention to the hand held market but they might have won there and you are also right that last year was better than the previous year. But 2 Mario games and Metroid M really does not compare to Uncharted, Ratchet, Mod Racers, God of War, Final Fantasy 13/14, the Wand, and many more games! I'm not a Microsoft fan but even if Microsoft showed nothing but Natal it would have won E3! So while last year was a better E3 than the previous year they still lost!

  • 0
NightDragon83 (on 18 November 2009)

I for one would welcome with open arms some changes to the tired "go to dungeon, get special weapon/item that's been in every Zelda game since ALTTP, and beat boss with said special item." Would be great if they included some kind of leveling system like in Zelda II, and they should make Hyrule a vast open world with a go anywhere/do anything quest structure that rewards you for your experience and accomplishments instead of the same linear quest structure and progression you make throughout every single Zelda game in the series.

losing the last two e3's?
how so..?
ill give you the 2007, but 08 was definitely nintendo's e3.

NSMB was releaved. so was mario galaxy 2
oh and what about other M?

  • 0
rapsuperstar31 (on 18 November 2009)

Nintendo fans will not forgive Nintendo unless Zelda is at E3 and awesome, after the losing the last 2 E3 big time!

  • 0
Yridian (on 18 November 2009)

They said there would be changes, and that TP would be the last Zelda of its kind on a console. But that could mean anything. Just using the Wii remote with 1:1 controls could be seen as new. I do hope there are MAJOR changes to the franchise. Long story short, OoT got me back into gaming (After totally missing the SNES era, since I was too 'mature' to play games) and the game just kicked arse! I was depressed to see it end, even though I had a sense of accomplishment from it. I believe it took me two months to finish! That's no longer the case with Zelda game. One reason, I'm better at games these days, and also the formula is just tired. I want to see weapons used throughout the game. Not just a 2-3 you use, then the rest are only really needed in a particular dungeon. I would also like to see a more active world, more epic in size, with less space. But I doubt that will happen.

pokeclaudel (on 18 November 2009)

I hope they add an over the shoulder perspective like RE4-5. It would be awesome if they added voice work for all characters except Link. More story plot twists would be nice.

  • 0
LokeSTL (on 18 November 2009)

I hope the new structure isn't a first person perspective. That change ruined the Metroid series for me and was attrocious in Dragon Quest Swords. They need to leave the formula as it is, and stick to plot variences. There is a reason that this series has sold so long, and it's not just because it features a boy in elven clothes.

  • 0
AugustusBot (on 18 November 2009)

AoL was awesome, for the record.

And they don't have to change the gameplay of the zelda series, at all.

What they need to change is the repetitive story that has you go to the same exact locations, collecting the same exact powerups for the past seventy-seven (AoL was awesome and doesn't fit the formula) Zelda games.

Dark Link should be in it.
The same tired Water Temple of the Zora and the Fire Mountain of the temporarily insane Gorons should not be in it.

  • 0
CrashMan (on 18 November 2009)

The last time they (significantly) changed the formula was AoL, which is by far the worst in the series (CD-i games aside)

I hope we still see a 3rd person action adventure focused on dungeon exploring and item collecting. How it can change significantly without changing these is beyond me, so I am sure I am going to be disappointed.

  • 0
hsrob (on 18 November 2009)

I haven't played a Zelda that isn't surpremely good yet so I'm keen to see what they can dream up.

  • 0
miz1q2w3e (on 18 November 2009)

i hope they don't change it TOO much, i still want it to be an action adventure game.

i'm sure whatever they do it'll be a good game :)

  • 0
AugustusBot (on 18 November 2009)

@Naum

When the past seventy-eight Zelda games we've all played have an identical story and game progression... (except for the insanely good Zelda 2.)

Then there is definite cause to "fix" what is not broken.

  • 0
SHMUPGurus (on 18 November 2009)

@ Snesboy: I meant Miyamoto said they wanted change even before TP came out.

  • 0
nicktwilight (on 18 November 2009)

zelda=quality so iam not afraid.i can not wait to see what changes it will have.it is by far my most anticipated title.

  • 0

... I can't believe how hyped I am after reading just this little bit.

I trust the changes will be welcome!

  • 0
trashleg (on 18 November 2009)

whatever. its still going to be LoZ (hopeful)

as long as it isnt co-op i'll be happy :-)

  • 0
Naum (on 18 November 2009)

OH and another thing... why "fix" something that isn't broken?

  • 0
Naum (on 18 November 2009)

There are 3 tings that must be in a Zelda game and that is 1:Zelda 2: Ganon 3: Triforce.

But they need to be more in it, not like in TP, were they were pretty much gone from the hole game, that's the reason I don't like TP that much.

  • 0
Keep_the_change (on 18 November 2009)

Whatever it is there will be clones.

  • 0
Citan (on 18 November 2009)

They can do whatever they like because Zelda will always be a masterpiece.

  • 0
Zucas (on 18 November 2009)

Oh that is awesome. They had stated right before Twilight Princess that the next one was going to be "radically" different so this gets me even more psyched. Can't wait til E3 2010.

  • 0
Cleary397 (on 18 November 2009)

I am so psyched up now! ROLL ON E3!!

  • 0
Demotruk (on 18 November 2009)

The earlier article where they said it would be completely different was a fake. This doesn't seem to be. Miyamoto has also said that Zelda Wii wouldn't be radically different.

  • 0
DOLBYdigital (on 18 November 2009)

I don't think it will be revolutionary but I'm sure they will try some new concepts. Should be interesting to see how it turns out but if its just getting revealed at E3 2010, then it probably won't be out til 2011 :(

  • 0
SnesTea (on 18 November 2009)

@SHMUPGurus

The key word in your sentence is AFTER. This is what they would be doing.
