Dan Greenawalt, the head of Turn 10, is reportedly leaving after nearly 27 years. He was the creative force behind the Forza Motorsport series.

"It’s hard to overstate Dan’s impact over the past 27 years," reads an internal memo from Playground Games studio head Trevor Williams seen by The Verge.

"From shipping Project Gotham Racing on the original XBOX in 2001 to leading the creation of Forza, founding Turn 10 Studios and appearing so many times on our E3 stage, usually making a dramatic entrance with a supercar in tow – and so much more – we owe tremendous thanks and gratitude to Dan.

"On behalf of both teams, I would like to thank Dan for his leadership, his support, and his partnership. I wish him well for whatever comes next."

Microsoft last month announced it was merging Turn 10 and Playground Games into a single studio to focus on the Forza and Fable franchise. However, it appears this is more about merging Turn 10 into Playground Games as the report claims Turn 10 is now known Playground Games Redmond.

Turn 10 was hit hard with layoffs last year with over 70 employees let go.

Understandable. I mean, what's the point of him staying when his studio has been downsized to the point of becoming a support studio?

And also when Microsoft inevitably does another round of layoffs the support studios will be the obvious candidates for further redundancies.
