PS4 is almost the same with the last year ( around 1m difference ) so according to this data, PS4 has much life left, sony consoles always have long legs, so PS4 was 20.1 for 2017, now will probably be around 18 or 19m, next year let's say 16-17m, so let's do the math, now PS4 is 12.5m let's say until the end of the year it will make another 6m so 86+6 = 92m by end of 2018, with around 16m in 2019 it will be 108m, 2020 will probably be PS5 launch and announcement that's why many people will wait for PS5, so let's say 12m, 120m in total until 2020, but probably sony will price cut it to 199$ ( the base slim ) and 299$ ( PRO ) in 2021 because of the new gen PS5, so let's say 2021 10m for PS4 (with help of the price cut) so that's 130m, and 150m is not very far away, 7m 2022, 5m 2023, some price cut and a little luck ( we had some years that declining consoles were almost the same sales 2 years in a row for example 3DS or PS2 ) so let's say 2024 5m, 2025 3m and something like that, it can easily beat 150M and with some luck 1-2m up from all of these years that I said, it can reach the PS2 number of 158M or at the lowest, 2019 15m, 2020 10m, 2021 5m 2022 2m 2023 end of life 1m that is total of 125m which is also very good number and far far away from PS1 and WII numbers

PS4 will outsell the wii and make more profit than it being a stronger graphics console with a higher price tag even the wii dropped to 100 dollars something the ps3 never did and the ps4 never will

I think they'll cut price next year around March

the ps4 is a beast but that i will make more money than the wii is debatable. Nintendo made a profit on every wii from the begining while sony sells hardware at a loss at first and make it up in software sales. on software nintendo 1st party titles keep their price longer too.

@Robert_Downey_Jr. Yes, it may be next year, if sony sees big slow up with sales, otherwise price cut is really not needed, if until march or april the sales are close to this or last year there is no need for price cut

The fact the ps4 can attempt to rival the wii in total sales is absolutely astounding if it did manage to surpass it that would be like the biggest comeback of all time from one gen to another

jhonnyrogersilva (6 days ago)

The biggest comeback of all time from one gen to another is the Wii.

For now, the Wii is the greatest comeback. 5 years from now, we'll be calling the Switch the greatest comeback.

Would it, though? A PS3 selling a mere 20% better would have outsold the Wii.

@haxxiy it's not even 20%, wii is 101m and PS3 is 87m this is around 14% difference, I think that if sony dropped the price on the PS3 ( as it should be, since all other console do when a new gen comes around ) in 2013 or 2014 the PS3 would easily reach 100m. They could easily put a 199$ official price tag and lets say 149$ for the 12GB model. The reason PS3 was selling so bad ( and 360 for that matter ) after 2013 is exactly this - the same price as before, no official MSRP price cut for both of them. See for example PS2, around 2006 Sony dropped the price to 130$ because of the PS3, and then in 2008 they dropped it a little more to 99$ so you had an option a cheaper old console for 99$ or even 130$ in 2006, and expensive new console for 600$ or even 400$ (xbox 360) if you want, but there is big differnce, 400/600$ for new gen high end, or 130$ for old gen low end. And now what ? we had 399$ for PS4 and then the official price for PS3 was 299$, for 100$ more you get new gen, even if we say some places PS3 was 249$ again, 100 or 150 more and you get new gen, a lot less than 2006 where the difference was around 300 $ or if you wanted PS3 even more
