The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.
PS4 Vs. XOne US:
Gap change in latest month: 102,052 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: 809,012 – PS4
Total Lead: 3,118,232 – PS4
PS4 Total Sales: 24,469,437
Xbox One Total Sales: 21,351,205
In May 2018 the gap in the US between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One grew in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 sold 102,052 more units than the Xbox One in the last month. The PlayStation 4 also sold 809,012 more units in the last year. The PlayStation 4 currently leads by 3.12 million units.
The PlayStation 4 launched in the US on November 15, 2013, while the Xbox One launched on November 22, 2013. The PlayStation 4 has sold 24.47 Million units, while the Xbox One has sold 21.35 million units.

It really speaks to the strength of the Xbox brand in the US that the gap isn't larger here. Over 50% of the XB1's sales have come from this one country. I don't think Microsoft would have stayed in the game if the US hadn't supported it so well.
Did not know the gap was officially over 3 million. Pretty insane, all things considered.
I don't know if it's "insane". The PS4 has a lot more games on offer.
