The VGChartz Gap charts are updated monthly and each article focuses on a different gap chart. The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation platforms, as well as comparisons within the 8th generation. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

 

Switch Vs. Wii Global:

Gap change in latest month: 3,471,579 – Switch

Total Lead: 2,109,418 - Switch

Switch Total Sales: 13,361,768

Wii Total Sales: 11,252,350

December 2017 is the 10th month that the Nintendo Switch has been available for. During the latest month the Switch has retaken the lead when compared to the first 10 months of the Wii. The Switch outsold the Wii by 3.47 million units. The Switch is currently ahead of the Wii by 2.11 million units.

The Wii launched in November 2006, while the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. The Switch has sold 13.36 million units, while the Wii sold 11.25 million units during the same timeframe.

I think that will be enough to keep the Switch ahead of the Wii for the next 2 months so it wins the first year.

Well Month 8-10 for Switch was Holiday season, month 8-10 for Wii was like June.

Wii will have a 'comeback' or at least reduce the deficit in 4-6 months.

It's not even likw ot was doing that bad before December lol. I'm sure if they shipped enough to Japan they wouldn't even have needed December to be in front in the same time frame. Good to see Nintendo successful again though 👌

Same could be said for the Wii, So many were wanting to buy them but nowhere had any stock.

I disagree, I had trouble finding a Wii 2 years after release. The Switch had a abundant stock this Christmas.
