SuperData Predicts Switch to Sell 5 Million Units By the End of 2017 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 02 March 2017 / 10,710 ViewsMarket researcher SuperData Research predicts the Nintendo Switch will sell five million units by the end of 2017.
When you compare it to the Wii U that is a good start. The Wii U has only managed to sell 14 million units lifetime since it launched in November 2012. However, it would put it well behind the Wii, which took less than five months to sell five million units.
Nintendo has stated it plans to ship two million Switch units this month.

“The biggest challenge for Nintendo is to convince console gamers to purchase the Switch as a second device, as many have already committed to a PlayStation 4 (53.4 million installed base, worldwide) or Xbox One (26 million),” said SuperData.
"Asking $300 for a new console without a bundled game is a comparatively higher barrier to entry for consumers, considering that the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One are already discounted and come with a free game."
The Nintendo Switch launches worldwide on Friday, March 3.

Highly doubt it. That puts it with Wii U level sales. Good launch, and then really slow year. I expect at least 8 million units.
Agreed 8m is my number as well.
Around 2m in March.
300k - 500k per month for April - August depending on supply.
500k - 750k September & October
1m November & December.
6.5m at worst
8m expected sales (lack of games will keep it here)
+10m if it takes off and becomes hugely popular and supply is there
If they announce a Pokemon Stars game I can see this happening. 5 might be a little too high for a console that doesn't quite yet have mainstream love.
GameSpot and other sites: "Switch Save Game Files Can't Be Transferred - They die with the system". that sucks. More than 5 million I doubt. Far too few games for launch and in summer time.
5 million should be easy, above all, it's going to depend on E3 and how Nintendo handles the Switch during November and December. It has to drop to $250 with 1-2 Switch as a pack in.
The second device argument is not a challenge, the primary device one is. If you have a PS4...I mean look at Xbox One this year, it's pretty dang thin on the ground. If the past years didn't convince you it is bringing nothing to change your mind. I mean, it is looking like Nintendo and Sony will be having a no-holds-barred, knock down drag out fight over end of the year awards while Microsoft sits quietly in the corner.
5 million seems to low, it will be much higher
It will sell at least 10 million this year, assuming Nintendo can manufacture that much.
What I've learned from a few threads on this site is "don't trust SuperData" xD I do agree with Slarvax's comment though, looking at this objectively, I would say that 5 million units over 2017 is on the low side.
It's beyond year one where things will get interesting. Will it succeed? will it fail? Only time will tell.
I'd guess closer to 10 than 5.
Good for Horizon, it is going to double the switch sales then.
Superdata predicted that Horizon will sell like 10 million right?
Always the same lame argument...."PS4 and XboxOne has the same price" blah blah blah blah. Do they have Zelda? Fire Emblem? Mario? Shin Megami Tensei? Pokemon? Animal Crossing? Monster Hunter? Yokai Watch? Layton? Ace Attorney?
The difference between the devices are their game library. Switch´s cathalog will get better over time and that´s the real reason why people will be buying one in the coming months, not anything else.
Sold out everywhere in Sydney city, so unless its grossly undersupplied thats a rather conservative prediction.
I think could cross easily the 10 million milestone. This year it got the best Zelda ever, a new Mario sandbox and other big exclusives for different tastes. The question is, could it keep the momentum after Mario Odyssey when Scorpio will be on the market and Sony will literally drop dreams with TLOU part II and Final Fantasy VII Remake and others?
i can see it doing way better than 5M. it will cross 7M line for sure, perhaps even the 8 or 9 million line, but i can't see it doing much more than this at the current price... if this thing hits 10M i will be surprised.
I think it will comfortably sell more than 5 million this year, but fail to reach 10 million. E3 will be crucial for the Switch. Yes Nintendo you appear to be on the improve and have created a device people are looking at but unless a TON of games are announced for the system soon the console will struggle against the might of the PS4.
5 milion is half of Nintendo's expectations for this year, plus since over 2M will be sold at launch I find it difficult to sell just 3 more milions in the rest of the year, I could see it selling 3M solely durig the Holidays with a Mario Odyssey bundle
Actually VGC has it at 13.25m at the end of 2011.
