This monthly series compares the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One with the combined aligned sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360.

The gap grew in favor of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in October for the second straight month. The gap in the latest month shrunk by 136,199 units and has grown by 5.92 million units in the last 12 months. The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One lead by a combined 20.85 million units.

The PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 in their first 36 months have sold a combined 48.76 million units, while the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One have sold a combined 69.61 million units.

The PlayStation 4 by itself had been keeping up with the combined sales of the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360, however, it has started falling behind. The PlayStation 4 is now behind by 2.98 million units.

It's good to see both 8th gen consoles holding down the fort. Guess Nintendo having a much smaller console presence these days has helped. Either way, PS3 and 360 sold about 170 million units, LT. Hopefully PS4 and XB1 will top that by a good margin.
