Head of Xbox Responds to Nintendo Switch Announcement - News

Head of Xbox Phil Spencer was asked on Twitter what he thought about the recently announced Nintendo Switch. He is impressed with how Nintendo is able to take such a bold vision and turn it into a product.

"I'm always impressed with their ability to state a bold vision and build a product that delivers on that vision," said Spencer.

He added that true innovation is critical for the long term success for gaming as a whole.

"Innovation, for all of us, is the best long term differentiator," he added. "it's not ads/promotions, true innovation is critical."

Spencer in the past has stated that he finds the console war debates "distateful" and has even praised the competition.

The Nintendo Switch launches in March 2017.

Thanks GameSpot.

I wish more people who comment on gaming websites were as respectful and diplomatic as Mr. Spencer.

Well most people aren't getting paid what he is. Fact is though he sounds way more classy than Sony reps during the PS3 era. I even remember a Microsoft rep trying to capitalize on the Wii success. They didn't discard it saying it was a gimmick or kids toy. I remember they stated that hey you should buy a Wii and 360. As much as I hate Microsoft I can't deny they had some decent people as reps for the Xbox division besides Don Mattrick.

I don't think being paid a lot should be what motivates people to be polite. Unfortunately, you're probably right, though. Also, I didn't know that about MS execs during the 7th gen. Pretty cool stuff.

Really hyped about Switch but I'm not gonna buy it at launch. I have a Wii U and games to finish on that already.

I have games to finish on every system reaching back to the NES.... T-T Technically back to Atari 2600, though most of those can't be "beat" just high score battles.

Price, Performance and Battery life. I wonder what they will be.

I like how he speaks up about the long term value of innovation. People don't realize that without innovators you wouldn't have your precious shooters, open world games, analogue sticks or even the d-pad. Not that every attempt at innovation will succeed, but someone has to be pushing the boundaries or we just don't go anywhere.

Why would they have to say anything bad. Nintendo's core fans already do it for everyone else. Game lineup tells the story. If there's no COD game by November for this new console, it's fate will be sealed with the hard core fans. Even a sports team will speak highly of a last place team in the league. The fans won't hold back though. Ask the Browns.

Of course he likes it. Nintendo is the only one breathing fresh air into the console industry. I don't know what Nintendo's chances are, but as always, I think the console gaming industry will have the longest life in their hands.

The classic Spencer that I liked before, good to see.

Must be nice seeing a company commit to their vision through the end ey? ;)

Thought of the dig and couldn't keep it in. I apologise.
