Star Wars Battlefront Will Not Have Microtransactions - News

Star Wars Battlefront will not include microtransactions, according to design director Niklas Fegraeus.

Speaking with GameSpot, Fegraeus said that microtransactions were "not part of the core design" of Star Wars Battlefront. Instead, "the currency system is based on your game performance. The credits that you use to buy things in the game are earned. You play the game, complete challenges, and that's how you get credits."

Star Wars Battlefront releases on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Windows PC on November 17th.

How sad is it that we've reached a day and age where a developer or publisher has to announce that a game will not have microtransactions in such a way that it sounds more like reassurance rather than disappointment? That just goes to show what kind of reception microtransactions have amongst gamers. In fact, for the last few years, we've heard this kind of announcement before.

"Yes, that is realtime gameplay in that trailer."

"Yes, our game will be working properly when you buy it."

"Yes, you'll be paying $60 for a complete game."

It's as if we've been mentally engineered to have low expectations about things that we used to take for granted. It's nuts.
