7th Gen vs 8th Gen - Aligned Sales Comparison - February 2015 Update - News

Welcome to a series of monthly articles. This series will be comparing combined aligned sales of the 7th generation platforms with the 8th generation platforms. The two charts compare the home consoles, as well as handhelds.
This first chart is comparing aligned home console sales between the 7th and 8th generations. That is the Xbox 360, PlayStation 3 and Wii combined sales aligned, versus the combined aligned sales of the Xbox One, PlayStation 4 and Wii U.
The 8th generation has struggled to keep up with the 7th generation and in February 2015 the only gap only continued to increase. The poor Wii U sales compared to the Wii is the main reason the 8th gen is behind. The gap grew by 1.44 million units.
The 7th generation home consoles in its first 16 months sold 43.63 million units, while the 8th generation sold 37.48 million units. The 7th gen currently leads by 6.15 million units.

Total Lead: 6,146,118 – 7th Generation
This second chart is comparing aligned handheld sales between the 7th and 8th generations. That is the DS and PSP combined sales aligned, versus the combined aligned sales of the 3DS and PlayStation Vita.
The gap between the two generation of handhelds has grown in favor of the 7th generation almost every month since the 11th month. The 8th generation only closed the gap in month 23 and 35 since the 11th month.
The 7th generation handhelds in its first 39 month have sold 100.58 million units, while the 8th generation has sold 52.56 million units. The 7th generation grew its lead by 2.23 million units and currently leads by 48.02 million units.

Wii U dragging everything down
The Wii U is on life support. The XB1 and PS4 are trying to go on like 2 mad people (like something thats a 3 man job, but trying to do it with 2 people). XB1 lags a bit, but still does well. PS4 doing better, but still not enough to fight the strain.
Doesn't look good.
Wow, good work, that really puts this gen in perspective as contrast to all the other reports how well it is doing - well, if you exclude the Wii.
