Super Smash Bros. Tournament Saved by Twitch - News

Apex and Nintendo were holding an event for the largest Super Smash Bros. tournament ever. The local fire marshal declared the event was a safety hazard and it had to be shut down, according to Gamesbeat.

Twitch helped out at the very last minute to find a new venue for the tournament. A venue was quickly found and the tournament is now able to take place. Over 1,000 people plan to participate in the Super Smash Bros. Melee tournament.

"When we heard that Apex lost the venue, everyone scrambled to help to find another space and luckily the hustle paid off," said Twitch chief operating officer Kevin Lin. "Apex is an awesome event, so we wanted to assist in any way possible to make sure it could still happen."

Amazing that Melee is still the major SSB "pro tournament" game. I wonder if SSB U will take over some time soon.

It won't take over when it has less competitive viability.

It's nice to see the community coming together in order to try and work our way through a bad situation. Really glad that the event is still going on.
