The charts include comparisons between the 7th generation and 8th generation, as well as comparing the 8th generation consoles. All sales are worldwide, unless otherwise stated.

PS4 Vs. XOne Global:
Gap change in latest month: 457,576 – PS4
Gap change over last 12 months: 6,252,008 – PS4
Total Lead: 6,252,008 – PS4
PS4 Total Sales: 12,570,164
Xbox One Total Sales: 6,318,156
In October 2014 the gap between the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One grew once again in favor of the PlayStation 4. The PlayStation 4 sold 457,576 more units than the Xbox One to bring the total lead to 6,252,008 units. The PlayStation 4 has sold 12.57 Million units in 12 months, while the Xbox One has sold 6.32 million units.
The PlayStation 4 and Xbox One both launched in November 2013 in North America and Europe. The PlayStation 4 launched on November 15 in North America and November 29 in Europe. The Xbox One launched on November 22 in North America and Europe.

Sadly both are undertracked
PS4 is kicking butt and PS4 should sell 50 to 60+ million more than XBox One this generation. XBox One has to settle for a long distant second place and hold off the Wii U.
I hope X1 can catch up with the Gap.
Then maybe surpass it for a while.
Historically consoles tend to snowball, because of the crowd effects, where friends try to get the same console their friends have, so there is very little chance the gap will shrink unless sony screws up very bad.
