Analyst: Destiny Sales Not Strong Enough to Stop September Slide - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 13 October 2014 / 5,972 ViewsWedbush Morgan analyst Michael Pachter has predicted that September sales will be down year-over-year, despite the release of Destiny. He estimated that Destiny has sold 2.75 million units in the US, which is well below the seven million Grand Theft Auto V sold a year ago.
"We estimate Destiny’s NPD unit sales figures for September will be 2.75 million units," said Pachter. "That’s well below Grand Theft Auto V’s roughly 7 million unites last year."
"Last September, Take-Two announced worldwide retail sell-through [sales to consumers] for [GTA V] of over $800 million on day one and over $1 billion for the first three days," added Pachter. "[Those are] both industry records. This September’s biggest release, Activision Blizzard’s Destiny, had day one sell-in to retailers of over $500 million, a record for a new franchise, with sell-through to consumers of over $325 million in its first five days."
Destiny compared to GTAV is not the only reason for a decline in sales. NBA 2K14 had five days of sales in September last year, while this year's version did not launch until October.
Other new launches in September include NHL 15, FIFA 15, Hyrule Warriors, Super Smash Bros. for 3DS, Disney Infinity: Marvel Super Heroes, and Middle-Earth: Shadow of Mordor.

Does he really predicted that this month's software sales wouldn't be as high as the GTA V's first month? Really? Isn't it kinda obvious that when last September a game made 18M+ we would see a slide this month?
No shit sherlock, GTA V came out last year, it was probably the biggest september to date.
Michael Pachter... Who really cares? But if there is any reason why there is a slump of sales shortly before the Christmas shopping season it's because... IT'S BEFORE THE CHRISTMAS SHOPPING SEASON! Seriously. Black Friday here in the U.S. is approaching soon so it's very reasonable for some consumers to wait for that deal. Plus, school is in full swing. Less time to buy and play video games.
Why say analyst? We all know its going to be Pachter. Why waste our time clicking the link?

The biggest selling IP in history is considered a commercial failure because it didn't beat GTA; blows my mind
Nothing was going to top the Mac Truck of a game called GTA V. But I am sure we will see a modest growth from last month. It will be interesting to see what GTA V does in November. Are all the other 11/18 releases being sent out to die? Sack Boy! No!
give me wrong but there is nothing in destiny that makes it a 500 million dollar game
I couldn't agree more :).
