The Xbox 360 has passed the Wii in total sales in the UK, according to VGChartz. The Xbox 360 became the number one bestselling home console for the seventh generation in the UK for the week ending March 30.

With the latest sales figures the Xbox 360 has sold 8,732,220 units to date in the UK, while the Wii has sold 8,718,881 units. For the week ending April 6, the Xbox sold 9,002 units, while the Wii sold 1,231 units.

The Xbox 360 also has a shot of outselling lifetime sales of the Wii in the US in the next year. The Xbox currently sits at 39,286,218 units sold, while the Wii has sold 40,911,701 units. The Xbox 360 has outsold the Wii by 30,000 units this week. At that rate it will take 54 weeks, but that is without the holiday boost.

so ? its not going to pass it globally

99 million for wii, 74 million for 360. I predict the sales will go up to maybe to the 80s, for both ps3 and xbox 360, but it will not surpass wii. 25 million is just too large a difference.

Have you seen the US charts? It's not a matter of "will it?" it's only a matter of "When will it?" The 360 will pass the Wii.

It's going to pass it in the U.S. aswell, so cudos to Microsoft. I can see PS3 beating Wii in Germany and maybe Japan eventually.

what about the ps3? its more popuar in europe but notUK? Anyways even though the wii sold well it was soon collecting dust in most people's home

Not likely they will pass Wii WW... 100m is out of reach this late. Maybe 90m.

JaxxRaxor (on 18 April 2013)

The main reason why it's improbable that the 360 would pass the Wii WW is because 360 sales have been simply abysmal in Japan. The 360 can't make up enough ground in North America and Europe to pass the Wii's WW numbers.

No one ever suggested that 360 would surpass Wii WW. Globally the 360 is at what 73 million? Sales are already getting weak this year, and will likely crash next year. I'd be surprised if the 360 sold more then 85 million units lifetime, and the PS3 90 million.

I think 85 million for 360 and 90 million for ps3 will be also a bit too high. The launch of the ps4 and xbox 720 will eat away those sales

The 360 is still 24 million units behind. Outside of Japan what countries is the 360 losing by a lot in? What country besides the US will the 360 pass the Wii? Good for the 360 either way. Beating the Wii is a good success story. Here's hoping MS does release a $100 model/keep the 360 going and bringing the price down to pass the Wii WW over the next 5-6 years.

I think it'll only be US and UK. PS3 will overtake Wii in Europe and probably come close in Japan by the time they're all done selling.

It begins! Well deserved X360. Hopefully PS3 will follow suit; both deserve to outsell the Wii... everywhere.

nice achievement for the xbox... considering it launched a year earlier and that support for wii has been dropped practically since 2011
