Kabam, the social-mobile game developer, has acquired China-based Balanced Worlds Studios, according to GamesBeat. The deal gives Kaban a foothold in the Asian social game market which has been growing at a rapid pace.
"The Balanced Worlds team brings a strong discipline and creative flare in 3D game development that will complement Kabam’s expanding portfolio of games," said Kabam Studios president Andrew Sheppard. "By merging Balanced Worlds’ expertise into Kabam’s already robust studio in Beijing, Kabam will continue to diversify its mobile offerings beyond the enormously popular strategy games Kabam is known for."
"Our shared vision of high-quality core 3D mobile games is perfectly aligned," said Balanced Worlds CEO Pfeiffer. "The Balanced Worlds team is proud to become a highly productive part of Kabam’s amazingly successful mobile-focused studio in Beijing."
Kabam already has a studio based in Beijing, China, which opened in May 2010. Balanced Worlds team of 17 will relocate to the Kabam studio in Beijing. This will bring the total to 90 employees in Kabam's Beijing studio.
Kabam started as developing games for Facebook, but it has expanded into mobile, as well as other markets. Kabam since 2010 has acquired Fearless Studios, Gravity Bear, Wild Shadow, and WonderHill Studios.
"Life in China imitates the art of game creation. The feeling of continual progress is intoxicating," said Pfeiffer.
