Assassin's Creed III, the latest game in the Assassin's Creed franchise, has set a franchise record selling three million units worldwide in its opening week. This is a 40 percent increase compared to Assassin's Creed: Revelations which held the previous record. Assassin's Creed: Revelations sold 2.15 million units in its opening week, while Assassin's Creed: Brotherhood sold 1.7 million units.

1.45 million of the sales were in the US, while 1.1 million are in Europe. The remaining 0.45 million units are from other regions in. The difference in sales between the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 versions is next to nothing. The Xbox 360 version had a 52 percent marketshare, while the PlayStation 3 version had a 48 percent marketshare.

Is there any point in the existence of the critics?

ECM (on 05 November 2012)

Still no.

Should see a nice boost for both the Vita and PS3

From these games directly? Yes, just the PS3 and Vita. They're the only ones that had AC bundles.

BenVTrigger (on 05 November 2012)

So we had a 100% increase in pre orders but the game did 40% more in sales.....

Proclus (on 05 November 2012)

Don't know, do these sale numbers match up to real life do you think? They were off with the pre-orders. But IDK personally.

Nah pretty sure Vg is undertracking again

Likely to see the numbers adjusted after NPD/Ubisoft statements then. :-)

Hopefully. Obviously not 3very game has a 100% pick up rate opening week but this would imply theres been a whole hell of a lot not picked up which I dont really believe. Should be closer to 3.5 to 4 million I would think

Só 360 Version sold 1.6m and Ps3 version 1.4m? Those are insane numbers for both Consoles, i picked Ps3 version because exclusive DLC.

SecondWar (on 05 November 2012)

I'm hoping that turns out to be a timed exclusive so I don't miss out. Wonder what my chances are.

well both Brotherhood and Revelations both had exclusive content that stayed exclusive. And thats not even mentioning whatever connectivity that the PS3 has with the Vita game. time will tell

On a side note, 5 days after its release the game is already discounted on Amazon...

Tridrakious (on 05 November 2012)

This is a very close battle between the PS3 and Xbox 360. I think the closest between a massive franchise.

loy310 (on 05 November 2012)

PS3 could be higher with the digital PSN launch numbers.

Tridrakious (on 06 November 2012)

That is true, but Sony pretends digital doesn't count. Or the monkeys in the corporate offices just misplace the digital reports...every month.

Great debut for AC3, and good debut for Liberation. I could easily see AC3 doing 10 million + LT, while Liberation doing above a million with bundling ;-)

cusman (on 07 November 2012)

I am thinking of buying AC3-Liberation bundle to get the White PS-Vita as a second PS-Vita for my household just so I can play my Smart As on my machine, and my Wife can use that on her White PS-Vita. Right now she is stuck doing just the free play games cause it only supports one profile for the statistics and daily test type charting. We did the same for the Brain Age games but in that one you just needed separate cartridges. The PS-Vita being system tied to your profile is a problem. The PS3 allows easy profile changes...

Barozi (on 06 November 2012)

Sell-through of AC3 was over 3.5m first week: http://www.joystiq.com/2012/11/06/ubisoft-posts-32-3-million-euro-loss-for-first-half-of-fiscal-20/

z101 (on 06 November 2012)

100k is ok, but I think the Liberation sales will fall down sharp.

think-man (on 05 November 2012)

I was expecting around 100k for assassins creed vita

think-man (on 06 November 2012)

Why thumbs down me lol I was expecting 100k and there was 100k?

I'm guessing this is more based on shipped than sold right? I mean I know that Ubisoft have their money right there but I would think a lot of this stock will be still in stores waiting for the next few weeks of big selling for gaming?

BenVTrigger (on 05 November 2012)

N9 way the game has probably already shipped at least 6 milloon

This is an article written based on VgChartz data.
VgChartz data tracks sold to consumer, not shipped.

Is this the biggest opening for a Vita game, ever?

  • -8
outlawauron (on 05 November 2012)

It's not close. Persona 4 and Miku both opened higher in just one territory.

  • +11
Aerys (on 05 November 2012)

Nop, far from that, the biggest opening was Persona 4, 240k just for the Japan

  • +4
Nem (on 05 November 2012)

Yeah, it might even sell a whole 200k ish lifetime. Will it even break even though?

Tridrakious (on 06 November 2012)

I'm wondering if some people are misinformed or if they are just looking for a free-trolling zone.

VGKing seems like he really might not know, but the usual suspects gotta be trolling or really ignorant
