Microsoft: Xbox 360 to be the Best Selling Console in the UK in 2012 - News

by William D'Angelo , posted on 23 October 2012 / 11,929 Views

Microsoft has claimed that the Xbox 360 will be the best selling console in the UK in 2012, saying that the PlayStation 3 and Wii will not be able to gain enough market share during the holiday period. Microsoft has said that the Xbox 360 has outsold every console from January to September in the UK.

Pawan Bhardwaj, Xbox Live product manager, has told CVG that he is "very, very confident" that no console will overtake the Xbox 360 during the holidays. "The data we have is for the January to September period, but I can absolutely assure you that the Xbox 360 will be the best-selling console for the calendar year."

According to VGChartz the Xbox 360 has nearly a 200,000 unit lead over the PlayStation 3 in the UK for 2012 as of the week ending October 13. The Xbox 360 has sold 669,225 units, while the PlayStation 3 has sold 479,250 units.

Sony Computer Entertainment UK boss Fergal Gara is upbeat about the PlayStation 3 during the holiday period. He mentioned the new super slim model, as well as the JK Rowling endorsed Wonderbook.

"If you look at the upcoming Christmas market, the Wii will be selling in very low volumes - it's on its way out - and the Wii U will arrive, but it will bring in a relatively small number of early adopter consumers. We see ourselves well positioned for the casual market who won't buy Wii U on day one," said Gara.

"We've got a wow moment, we feel," Gara continued. "I remember when people picked up the Wii controller for the first time, that was a big moment, it was a casual market breakthrough, but we thing we've got a casual market breakthrough as well with Wonderbook and the lowest priced PS3 yet."

Not saying Microsoft is wrong, but that 12gig PS3 could really do some damage. It'll be a close race this holiday in the UK. I doubt WonderBook will be a success though....You need a PS Move, a PS Eye, the WonderBook + the game Book of Spells....its a lot of stuff. There's a reason Kinect has been successful.

If anything, Xbox will only be the best selling in UK this year, due to the fact that approximately 6 million MORE Europeans already have a PS3. I personally still think it's going to be too close to call in the end. Most weeks PS3 sells about 50,000 more units in the UK than xbox does. If that trend continues, there's no hope of MS being best selling in the UK in 2012.

Kidding, trolling or just delusional ?

If not, for my own information, could you tell me what are the games you are talking about ?

I have checked Metacritic and i dont see any retail exclusive PS3 game in the 80% + and only one PSN game when there are a lot more on X360, 3DS, PSV and PC and even a little bit more on Wii and PSP :)

How you can get so many thumbs down for this comment is beyond me Marco. You said your opinion and for some dumb reason was voted down for just saying something that you feel for and can stand for.
