Dragon Quest X Reaches 300,000 Paid Subscribers - News
by William D'Angelo , posted on 27 September 2012 / 9,370 ViewsDragon Quest X, the Wii MMORPG, has reached 300,000 paid subscribers in Japan, according to Nihon Securities Journal and translated by Anime News Network. Each subscriber pays 1,000 yen ($13) per month. This adds up to around $3.8 million that publisher Square Enix is making per month.
Dragon Quest X debuted at number one on the Japanese charts with sales of 420,000. The game has sold 550,000 units since it launched on August 2. For a Dragon Quest title, sales maybe low, but it is the MMORPG for the franchise.
In comparison, Final Fantasy XI peaked at around 600,000 subscribers in Japan. Dragon Quest X will need to double its number of subscribers to achieve a similar amount of success. However there is a limited amount of free time each day for non-subscribers to be able to play the game.
Dragon Quest X is also coming to the Wii U next year with changes to the game.

I didn't know you could play without subscribing. it's nice of SquareEnix to have implemented that.
With FFXI they must be talking about worldwide, it barely sold anything in Japan.
Put that money to finishing off Versus XIII. PLEASE.
600.000 FFXI subscribers in Japan alone? Seems not reliable.
FFXI is SE most successful Final Fantasy in profit thanks to monthly payments.
I'll have to do my research of course on this game.
Consider me interested. I've had my fair share of MMOs, namely DCUO. And I'm hoping that if this works out, maybe nintendo would think of putting another IP of theirs online as an MMO as well.
I think they can have a better result than FFXI.
I guess a lot of people are just playing the single campaign part and then the free hour or so each day. 3.8m a month is good but I suspect SE was hoping for more.
It better be a complete offline mode (like Phantasy Star Online had) and NO FEES at all. Or at least I dunno 5 hours free per day and free weekends or something.
Lol that is a ridiculous hope. 5 hours a day and free weekends... Why would anyone bother paying... Though maybe once subscriptions drop low enough they could make it free to play with micro transactions.
what how does that work I thought that its fully subscription based. the game has sold like 600k what are the other half doing... steering at there copy
article says there is limited free time each day.
