@ outlawauron It's a good game, but in Japan it's more attched to handhelds. Wario World for the gamecube sold 142,000 in Japan during its lifetime
@ dark prince They sold that much?! Wow, that's a bigger flop than I thought! Is the game not very good? Or it could be like monster hunter, where the game just sucks on consoles. That could be the case if Wario on sold on handhelds.
Wario Land 4 was a Treasure game, good to see they actually got a good selling game = P

"Machi-ing Maker DS" Always new games and new games that suck and are at top 20 about week or two.. Thats maybe 1 reason these "hardcore" games wont sell so much. If in month there wouldnt be these "week" games then i think all good games would sell more.
The thing i find most amusing about this is that Guitar hero 3, despite selling only 1k, actually sold better than i expected. heh.
Oh Wario Land's sales The previous Wario games never really did amazingly in Japan. Most of the time they sold ~30k total. They majority of the sales will be in the US.
It's cheaper? That's... just weird considering the great difference over here...
@Garcian Smith : well, considering all Wario Land games before were great success, yeah, many were expecting good sales. Even the DS iteration, which didnt sell well, had around 80K first week Other version were more around 200k on 1st week.
@Kasz, The Wii version PPB15 is priced lower than the PS2 version in Japan Price listed at Amazon.jp: PS2: 6,426 yen after 8% discount (list price: 6,980 yen) Wii: 5,181 yen after 13% discount (list price: 5,981 yen) 3:1 sales of this game is in line with the userbase ratio between PS2 and Wii (~3.5: 1)

I think Nintendo's strategy this time of showing a game a couple weeks before release has failed. Don't get me wrong Wario Wii will have long legs but 10K first day must be a disappointment! Good showing for Powerful Pro PS2!
The trouble with the Wario game is that people wanted New Super Mario Bros. Wii. That is a 2D platformer that would have sold.
I am pretty shocked at wario, I though Japan loved side scrollers...
@ssj 300k minimum? Yeah right. Even Siren on the PS2 didn't sell 300k lifetime in Japan...let alone the PS3 version doing 300k on the first day.
As for Wario. No idea why it did so bad. Sad too i love 2-D platformers. FAR cry from what Super Paper Mario or Wario: Master of Disguise did.
To be fair about PPB 15... the PS2 version is a LOT cheaper then the Wii version... for little difference. For the US it's $39.99 for the Wii and $19.99 PS2. 3 to 1 sales when the Wii version is twice the price is good. If Japan follows the same policy i'd say it'd be ignorant to call 3 to 1 bad... heck it's pretty stupid to call it bad in anycase... since the Power Pro games are all about gameplay and the two games are the same. Only reason to get the Wii version over the PS2 is some Mii options.

Siren will be big due to it being available on the PSN and being able to buy it in 3 episode packs. I'm sure it is already over 300k minimum worldwide.

Didn't Super Mario Sluggers have nearly the same exact sales as Wario but still had some good legs? The same could happen.

I also feel the PS2 is slowing down the new generation.Its graphics are similar enough to the Wii for many not to make the jump and it still gets many RPG and anime/mecha games of whose it deprives the PS3 and slows down its penetration there. If Sony retired the PS2 from Japan and introduced a slimline BC enabled PS3 SKU it would be a 100% win.
Not bad for Siren specially considering it never did more than 100K in Japan and it has also the downloadable versions.To be fair all the PS3 releases manage somehow to sneak in the top Ten in their first week,and the next one will be Soul Calibur IV the next week. Big flops for Wario and Powerful Pro Baseball on the Wii.Out of Mario and the Wii Fit/Sports/Play it doesnt seem to sell too much software in Japan.Even its big Tales of game had only decent sales.

I think reasons for Wario bombing should be more on the spectrum of speculation rather than excuses. It did horribly, and I emphasize horribly. And it's going to need some really good legs to pull off any decent amount of sales. Although I don't see why anyone cares, Nintendo has plenty of money already.
mabe 2D platformers are dead in home console. There just aren't many of them anymore although I did enjoy Super Paper Mario and Viewtiful Joe.
Next week is pretty big: Phantasy Star, Rythm Tengoku, Soul Calibur and Fatal Frame. Probably this a factor for the poor numbers.

It's nice to see the PS3 is finally getting a steady stream of games in Japan. I think having a continuous portfolio of new games could help it a lot more than the rare blockbuster hits. All it needs is more jRPG/Japan-Centric titles, and it could pick up.

I was thinking about Wario and Siren. Both aren't niche titles and people aren't going to the store running for them, so Why bother for the first day sales? Probably both of them'll end near 50k the first week.

Wario Land for Wii IS a very good Game. But, it donīt have fit or brain in his name, thats the problem. 2-D is the beginning of all Games, i think in Europe the game wolud reach around 500 k.
i think have the games load to your hard drive is more fun than have to always inserting the disc ....the same with movies

Did anyone honestly expect Wario Land - a 2D platformer starring Mario's evil, retarded cousin - to do well? I certainly didn't.
Not a good start for Wario... but its likely to sell through the weekend, as its "no fan base" title. 20k for Siren is good though, more than I expected.

Wow @ Warioland. Well, in brighter news, Siren has good first day sales. We'll never know the actual amount it sells because it's also available on PSN, but the Blu-Ray version did okay.
Wario may open to first week sales of 30k or so... it is very possible that there was not much hype around it... Heck, I did not even know it was being released until it already was... But I am think 150k lifetime in Japan would be a good goal at this point.
@TruckOSaurus No it had nice reviews, Wario is a Mixed bag in Japan, in handheld usually has nice sales but in consoles not.

Strange I thought Wario would do good because it is 2D. If I am right the Mario 2D games sold better than the 3D games in Japan....I am kind of shocked.

Wario Land Shake did horribly. But Powerful Pro Baseball 15 on Wii did better than its last iteneration...The PS2 is still a beast.

Wario Land did bad IMO ... PPB 15 by far outnumbers the Wii version .
