They are one of the wealthiest corporations on earth and released a next generation console a FULL 1 year earlier, they bought into exclusives, created an excellent first party lineup and great online game services.

sony incorporates all pal designated zones as europe,and has long before ms entered the market as for japanese being biased yes they are a very insular nation but it as got more to do with the types of games Japanese people are accustomed to ie anime ,train sims dating rpgs and casual games to name a few and even sony has pandered to this treating the east /west markets very differently
it also works in reverse with japanese hits not selling in the west or being perceived as to idiosyncratic to even try .
sony has recently changed its accounting so sales are units sold.

0

gipiam (on 24 June 2008)

I see no problem at taking sides, but there are problems for yourselve when you lie to you.

1rst things 1rst. I love video games, no matter where they come from and competition usually improves things to us consumres. So, the more companies fighting for the 1rst place, the better games we should get.

We have always played Sony and Nintendo games, they have been there for ever, just in case many of you forgot, and they have given you very great moments of videogame pleasures. So, you all should be gratefull to them. Now, M$ joined them, and u should still be gratefull cause they have given us more choices and have helped the videogame industry to push 4 better games.

So, shut the F@ck up and enjoy your games and buy what ever the hell u want and feel happy about it PERIOD

One last thing. If you want to have better games, support all the video consoles out there to have more choices.....

Think then talk... otherwise we are better off if u keep it shut.... ;)

The only thing that could save Xbox is incorporating a blu ray player

0

FingerSub (on 23 June 2008)

Yeah the 360 has been selling slower and slower and is going to stop at 25,000 like the Xbox did. After all Sonys systems have always started off slow but its gaining momentum witch I love to see.

0

rukusa (on 22 June 2008)

As a half japanese, Im deeply offended by how some of these xbox fanatics desperately grasp for reasons to why the xbox 360 console is falling behind in Japan. I guess they feel the need to find a reason to cope with the shortcomings in Japan, dragging down a whole country with them.

So many giggles.

0

Fei-Hung (on 18 June 2008)

Well i have both, a 360 and a ps3 and i can say my 360 will be going "bye bye" soon because it's starting to get on my nerves. Before, it was about the 360 having better online play...this seems to be changing very quick and at least for the ps3 i haven't got to pay any subscription and soon i will be getting a free online virtual world for online gaming as well as linux for browsing. I also don't have to pay for a wireless set up unlike on my 360 and last but not least, i don't have to constantly upgare my 360. I lost on buying a blady HD Drive that is worth nothing now sicne microsoft can't make their minds up.

My friends feel the same way about the 360 and now with the big titles being released on the ps3, it is just a matter of time that many 360 owners start looking at a ps3 as a alternative if not a wii and i don't blame them. Microsoft blew it by building a last generation console with nothing new to offer and now they suffering the consequences of rushing a console onto the market!

Good on Sony for picking up sales and I hope they dominance continues .... although i may keep my 360 for gears of war 2 :p lol

0

BKK2 (on 18 June 2008)

"The larger ‘Others’ region covers places like Australia, Africa, and mainland Asia in addition to Europe"

Well, out of the four East Asian countries 360 & PS3 have been released only South Korea is on the mainland. Hong Kong, Singapore, and Taiwan are islands.

I realise part of SAR Hong Kong is on the mainland, but isn't considered as being part of mainland China.

0

Jordahn (on 17 June 2008)

@eliasg

The 360 is being beaten by the PS3 in hardware sales as we speak. It's a fact. That just makes it that much harder for the 360 to dominate with the trend the PS3 is going.

0

Jordahn (on 17 June 2008)

@ Smashchu2

"Because it only applies to Videogames oddly enough. They'll love American music and movie, but not when it comes to games. Look at most western developed games. Most do poorly."

Or maybe it's because as a people they like what they like regardless of the company's nationality. Thank you for your cherry-picked selective reasoning.

0

Smashchu2 (on 17 June 2008)

"Smashchu2,then why japanese love the ipod,the xbox 360 is just a piece of crap"

I wonder how the PS3 is doing this without all their big exclusives out. By 2009, PS3 will pull ahead even farther from 0 to 60.

0

honestly.... Who didn't see this coming???

0

Leetgeek (on 17 June 2008)

PS3 will take North America and world from 360 by mid 2009 np.

No it will not pass Wii or DS or Gameboy or Pacman or pong or Barbie or any other last generation hardware/toys.

0

MontanaHatchet (on 17 June 2008)

Meh, Onimusha likes to say the same things over and over again. This is a pretty nice achievement giving that people were predicting early in the console race that Sony would drop out. Not only that, but Microsoft had a pretty good lead.

0

Nacht (on 17 June 2008)

if only PS3 can be pirated.
there will be a huge increase in sales.^^

0

superb news, i just want it to overtake 360 in the uk now. so it would just leave NA left to dispel.

im so happy that people in EU have been shut up, now time for NA which will be mid 2009

0

Chavez54 jus FKN owned that but besides this 180% sale increase for US and may decline but still closing the gap on 360 NO ONE CAN DENY THIS 360 declining PS3 INclining nuff sed and honestli I dont think just another shooter that didnt really do to much damage anyway going to put 7(FKN)00% increase on its console in its native country like MGS4 did

"pippin - "Japanese and their game racism" Oh but American giving bad scores to PS3 is not "game racism" QFT!"

No your wrong. The US doesn't like the PS3 becuase the price is so bad and there is nothing on it. However, we still like the brand if something good came out of it (look at the PS1, PS2 and PSP).

Japan hates the 360 becuase it is not Japanese. They are xenophobic to the core.

0

eliasg (on 17 June 2008)

PS3 domination will never come. Wii is still here and 360 is very hard to beat...

0

Nacht (on 17 June 2008)

don't forget another upcoming titles like Final Fantasy XIII, Versus XIII, Cross Edge etc. I'm sure these will boost PS3 sales.

0

Snake612 (on 17 June 2008)

I knew this day would come. Ps3 domination begins. The domination will reach a higher level with the release of god of war 3.

0

pippin (on 17 June 2008)

to Halil23:

pippin - "Japanese and their game racism" Oh but American giving bad scores to PS3 is not "game racism" QFT!

Come on,do not pretend this isn't true!I'm not american mate and i do not have the best of opinions about USA but that's another discussion.As it concerns video games,yes,Japanese are "racist".Do you really believe that with its rich library of games 360 should sell 1000 units in any market place?If the console had a Nintendo or Sony emblem upon it, it would sell millions in Japan!You can't deny this...If PS3 had 360's library and price up to now it would probably be first in Japan!

0

selnor (on 17 June 2008)

@TheRealMafoo

GameDaily claim that Sony figures do include Africa and Russia and the middleeast. I live in Europe and wish as a European that these places are not associated with Europe. They are Asia. M$ only include 22 countries in Europe data. Also Gamedaily state that Sony's figures are shipped figures and M$ figures are Retail sales. That makes sense considering Sky UK gaming channel Pulse 208 said 2 weeks ago in their news program that 360 had outsold PS3 in the UK by 18% from Jan 2008 - June 2008.

0

nodirt (on 17 June 2008)

Just... normal, PS3 will rule as PS2.

0

Crystalchild (on 17 June 2008)

@Onimusha:

hmm... Sony lost the domination, but they will come back. not so high, like the PS2, but they will have a head to head race with microsoft. Thats for sure.
And there are lots of Sony Fans outside, and they will buy a (expensive) PS3, when they got enough money. (on special events like christmas, or birthday.)

0

0

@TheRealMafoo
Ι think that if you read some other comments and take off the Blinding Glasses, you'll understand what I'm talking about. This is not a car race. Even the 3rd can be victorious and the 1st a loser, considering the previous generation status. Keep counting consoles sold. Very creative!

0

NekoSOM (on 17 June 2008)

Like bragging about being the smartest kid with Down's syndrome...sad really. Oh well, I suppose they'll take any miniscule victory they can attain at this point. History won't be quite so kind with Sony as the fanboys have been.

0

chinmoku (on 17 June 2008)

Go on Sony.

0

s-grandi93 (on 17 June 2008)

out of home consoles... ps3 is ranked 2nd in europe 3rd america and 2nd Japan... xbox is 2nd in america 3rd in europe and 3rd in Japan.. GO SONY ( Not so bad for people who doubted it p)

0

Tbone (on 17 June 2008)

Thats great for ps3

0

Ail (on 17 June 2008)

Are you so sure that the pace of the PS3 in Europe is off the pace of the PS2 ?
They seem to be similar to me, the difference being mainly that the PS2 released later in the year there and had 2 holydays under its belt after 65 weeks whereas the PS3 still only has one...

0

MorgZ (on 17 June 2008)

It would be nice to show comparison of sales between, at this time in there European life cycle, where were PS2 (vs PS3) and Xbox (vs 360).

I think the important thing for M$ is that the 360 is tracking considerably above the Xbox in Europe.

It also shows how much of a help the price cut for the 360 was as it has been tracking considerably above the 40k / week average since the cut.

0

pippin (on 17 June 2008)

Hahaha!Sony fanboys just make me laugh!I f someone told them 3 years before that the new Playstation would be 5-6 million units behind the new xbox by the summer of 2008 they would laugh...You just can't admit that Sony blew it up with PS3.After the enormous success of PS2 they should be first by way too far but they're third and are trying to catch 360 which is 5-6 millions ahead!And let;s say it will finally catch up..So what?If this is going to happen it will occur due to Japanese and their "game racism" and don't start again to convince me that 360's failure in Japan is MS's fault.If al of these great games had been released in a Sony or Nintendo console they would sell crazy in Japan!

0

TheRealMafoo (on 17 June 2008)

@Epinrfridis

Way to take a victory out of coming in 3rd in an 3 man race. Good for you! :)

0

epinefridis (on 17 June 2008)

Still, continental Europe doesn't affect sales for games that I care about. And that's the real Victory for MS this generation. Still. europeans will wait for a 360 title to play a hardcore shooter or an RPG. Last generation, XBOX HARDLY existed. Now, it is on par with PS3. Who's the winner?

0

TheRealMafoo (on 17 June 2008)

@Selnor

Who knows, but these numbers are not including those locations. I don't think it really matters was an internal marketing department wants to call a region.

0

stefman1 (on 17 June 2008)

ps3 has also sold more software now

0

Smashchu2 (on 17 June 2008)

@Whitecum101
3rd with a chance for 2nd does not equal domination

But it's to be expected really. If you looked at the numbers in the last 6 months you would expect it to happen eventually.
