In Devil May Cry, you assume the persona of Dante, the half-human, half-devil son of a legendary dark knight known as Sparda. A powerful and malevolent ruler of the underworld, whom Sparda vanquished 2,000 years ago, has awakened and, although Dante doesn't quite know it at the game's onset, he--like his father--has been chosen to defeat this evil being. Game start when Trisha comes to ask Dante for help to defeat Mundus. Unlike in other games, Trisha slashes sword on Dante and then tries to trhow motorbike at him.
.
Devil May Cry was first game in more than 10 years that changed action hack and slash game genre. I found it interesting after watching demo, and it was my first Ps2 game. But what makes it so awesome? Everything.
Dantes arsenal has 2 pistols, granade launcher, Nightmare beam gun, shotgun.. He also gets Alastor, Sword of sparda and Ifrit gauntlets. As you go on, you get Red orbs, which you can use to level up your skills. Like buy more energy, train skills etc. While more waepons bring more energy to pack, thats not all. You can trasform to Demon mode, where Dante gets meanier than ever, but not only he gets more power, skills and waepons effect how destructive you are on fight. For example,if you transform while having Alastor, you run fast and slice with more power and speed. But if you have bought some skills, like that you can FLY, it gets ever nastier.Or when you have Ifrits gauntlets, you can cast huge fireballs, infernos or just smash enemies with great power.
At start, controls were hard as hell. But heck the feeling when you actually evade "bullets" with one little step, slice enemy to air, shoot it, then smash him to ground, transform demon, hack him more, then maybe change to Ifrith and blast him with fireball, while trying to evade swords and fireballs in about 5 seconds, thats awesome! This goes on in great boss fights, that include one of coolest fights ever.
Chratacters are very intereting, expecially one of best bosses ever, Nelo Angelo, which seems to have past with Dante.
You get new stuff, like costumes when you finish the game. And there is secret missions, like "kill enemies on 10 seconds" where you get items. And when you finish games at "Dante Must Die" difficulty, you get infinite Demon mode.I played game trought over 10 times.
Overwall, I didin't expect Devil May Cry to be best game on ps2. But I have to admit, this wins even Metal Gear Solids.

@A203D No actually I didn't, cause unlike some people I don't go snooping on other accounts. Also, you do realize I wasn't the only one who replied. The only reason you're giving me crap is because I, how'd you put it, stood in defiance of you over DMC4 "The game has actually sold about 2.16 copies. I still think despite its age, its better than DMC4." I fail to see what this has to do with my comment, and seriously I stick up for DMC1 one of my favorite games, which you claim to be a true fan of and consider the only true DMC, and you still give me crap? Huh and you accuse me of trolling Message | Report |

@Valkyria00 I also started with DMC3, and I feel your comment is unfair. You have to take into account that DMC1 was the first game of the series, and what they were able to do back then. Of-course DMC3 has better combat. But still the first game set the standard Message | Report |
