Guide Notes

  1. The guide was on how to defeat the characters and assumes you know how to play the game, if you need information on how to play, refer to the instruction manual.
  2. The Guide is ordered by fight order in career mode. Challenges information is placed at the end of each characters guide.
  3. Punches are always written from the first person perspecive. So Oponent's Left Jab would be his left first on your right side. If you need to throw a left jab, it is your left fist.
  4. While I try to provide information on which punches/dodges work, I may not have listed all of them or left some omission. So while I may say Jab for the star, hooks may work too. If I say left jab, then a right jab probably doesn't work, but it may have just been that I never tried it. However, what I do have written down definitely works.

Contender - Minor Circuit

Glass Joe

Age: 38
From: Paris, France
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 110 lbs
Record: 1-99 (1 KO)

Up first as your introductory fight is the human punching bag Glass Joe. Glass Joe is the easiest character in the game and only has 2 punches.

Moves

  1. Taunt 1
Glass Joe puts his arm behind his back and does a pose. He will flash yellow.
  2. Left Jab
Glass Joe steps back and then throws a jab. This can be dodged in any direction or blocked. This can be countered with a Jab.
  3. Right Hook
Glass Joe takes a step to your left and then throws a more powerfull hook. It is slightly delayed, but easily dodged in any direction. You can not block any hooks in the game, so don't try. This can be countered with a left hook.
  4. Taunt 2
Glass Joe takes 3 steps back and yells "Hey, Hey, Viva la France" and steps back to center.

Stars

  1. Jab him when he flashes yellow during his first taunt.
  2. Counter his Left Jab with a Jab of your own right when he is flashing red.
  3. Counter his Right Hook with a left hook right when he is flashing red. It is easiest if you hit him right when he starts to move forward.

One Hit Knockdown

When Glass Joe does Taunt 2, hit him with a hook right as he is stepping back to the center of the ring. If you time it correctly he will go down regardless of how much health he has.

Strategy

Glass Joe starts the fight by doing his first taunt, so pick up the star right off the bat. He then stands there and will not throw any punches, so get to work on him by throwing 3 jabs, then 3 hooks and repeat. Eventually he'll do is Viva la France taunt, where you will hit him with a hook for a one-punch knockdown.

He will now start to throw punches (even if you miss the knockdown). Counter or dodge these and continue to beat on his face. There isn't really much to say about Glass Joe, as he doesn't really take any strategy at all.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Knock down Glass Joe 3 time, then let him win by decision
This is really annoying to do, but overall fairly easy. Knock him down twice in round 1, and then let him beat you (don't get knocked down 3 times) until the end of the round. Knock him down once in round 2 and then continue to let him knock you down twice and then dodge until the end of the round. Continue to dodge everything in round 3.
  2. Find the one-punch knockdown weak spot
Hit Glass Joe with a hook when he steps back to center during after his second taunt.
  3. Defeat Glass Joe without dodging, ducking, or blocking
First master how to counter both of his punches. Once you know how to do that just attain three stars and use them along with the one-punch knockdown and you are good to go.

Von Kaiser

Age: 42
From: Berlin, Germany
Height: 6'0"
Weight: 144 lbs
Record: 23-14 (10 KOs)

Von Kaiser proves to be just as easy as Glass Joe without the human punching bag qualities when the fight first starts. While he does start fighting right off the bat, he has easy tells and also only has 2 punches.

Moves

  1. Left Jab
Essentially the same as Glass Joe, but you'll hear a ticking sound and his head will shake as he pulls back for the jab. This can be dodged, ducked, and blocked. Counter this with a quick right jab while he is shaking his head.
  2. Right Hook
Von Kaiser steps to his right and then throws a delayed hook. This can be dodged to either side. Counter it with a left hook.
  3. Guard
After you hit him he will throw up his guard and block all punches. After a few seconds he will lower his left hand and yell "Mommy!"

Stars

  1. Counter his left jab with a right jab right when the ticking sound stops (and he turns red)
  2. Counter his right hook with a left hook as he starts to move forward.
  3. Jab him when he lets down his guard and yells "Mommy!". He also flashes yellow.

Strategy

Von Kaiser also only has two punches, so either counter for stars, or dodge and combo him in the face. There isn't much strategy, but you can take advantage of the fact that if he is dizzy and you hit him with a star punch he will go down instantly.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat Von Kaiser and land every punch
You can either do this the hard way and actually fight him, but if you miss or he blocks you then you'll have to try again. Or, you can just do challenge 3 without missing a punch.
  2. Defeat Von Kaiser in under a minute
There are 2 ways to do this. The first, and slightly harder way, is to get a star, dizzy him, and star punch him for the knockdown. Repeat 3 times. Or, you can just do challenge 3 in a timely manner.
  3. Defeat Von Kaiser in only 5 punches
This is actually fairly easy. Counter his first two jabs and his first hook. Dodge his next punch and punch him once. He guards after you hit him, so throw your tripple star punch right as he starts to drop his guard and yell "Mommy!"

Disco Kid

Age: 20
From: Brooklyn, NY, USA
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 210 lbs
Record: 4-12 (2 KOs)

Another contender with only 2 punches, however Disco Kid is slightly faster with the punches.

Moves

  1. Right Jab
Disco Kid takes a step back to his right, flashes red and throws a quick jab. This is faster than the two previous jabs you've seen so far. This can be dodged, ducked, blocked or countered with a left jab.
  2. Left Hook
Disco Kid takes a step to his left and says "Here it comes" then turns red and throws his hook. This can be ducked or countered with a right hook.
  3. Taunt 1/2
Disco Kid has two taunts, but in the end they work the same. He strikes a pose and then his teeth "shine".

Stars

  1. Counter him with a left jab him when he uses his right jab. You want to punch right when he starts swinging.
  2. Counter him with a right hook when he uses his left hook. This is delayed and you want to punch right when he starts swinging.
  3. Jab him when his teeth flash with his first taunt pose.
  4. Jab him when his teeth flash with his second taunt pose.
  5. Dodge an attack and then combo him with jabs. As he recovers back to the center hit him with a punch from whatever side he is on. This is very tricky.

One Hit Knockdown

Star Punch Disco Kid right when his teeth flash during either tuant. He will go down instantly.

Strategy

Disco Kid starts every round with a pose, so jab him for the free star. After that, either get more stars with counter punches or just duck his attacks and then combo him. He only has 2 attacks so overall he is fairly easy, but if you want to make him really easy, just get stars and knock him down whenever he taunts.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Land a 3 star punch and win the match
This is really easy. Just earn 3 stars and then land a 3 star punch. Go on to beat Disco Kid however you want.
  2. Discover 5 different ways to earn stars
    See the Stars section above
  3. TKO Disco Kid using only 6 punches
Get a star either by punching him when he taunts or counter punching him. Then Star punch him when he taunts. It has to land when his teeth flash. This will knock him down. Repeat this 2 more times within a single round.

King Hippo

Age: ??
From: Hippo Island, South Pacific
Height: ?'??"
Weight: ??? lbs
Record: 16-9 (13 KOs)

The first real challenge in the game, unless you happened to have played the NES version years ago.

Moves

  1. Right/Left Jab
He lifts his fist to his face and then flashes red and jabs. This can be dodged, ducked, or blocked.
  2. Right/Left Overhead Smash
He raises one fist above his head, flashes red, and then brings it down on you for a lot of damage. Dodge left or right to avoid it.
  3. Double Side Smash
This only happens when King Hippo is below about half stamina. He moves back and raises both hands above his head. He comes forward and swings both fists in from the sides. It must either be ducked or countered with a hook.

Stars

  1. Occasionally he will stand around without guarding his weak spot. Hit it with a hook.
  2. Either duck or block his jab, and then hit him with a hook on the side his weak spot is on. So if he throws a right jab, you throw a right hook.
  3. Counter his double side smash with a hook. You need to land the punch right as he starts to move forward.

Strategy

This fight is slightly different than the other fights. You only need to knock him down once and he is instantly KO'd. Also, you won't be able to land a punch unless you execute them properly unlike the previos boxers who were faily easy to hit. After any punch he throws (and you dodge), he will open his mouth. This is your oportunity to stun him with a jab. Once you do that, you need to hook him in the weak spot and then you can combo him however you want.

After he gets down to ~50% health, he'll start doing his double side smash, which you will want to duck. Again, he opens his mouth and you can jab him so you can start comboing him.

If you want to speed up the fight, get stars as outlined above.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat King Hippo without getting tired
This is really easy to do. Essentially don't run out of hearts. Getting hit will cost you 3 hearts and getting blocked will cost you 1.
  2. KO a crownless King Hippo
Counter his double side smash and he should lose his crown. Once he loses his crown he becomes more erratic, but if you counter his double side smash again he will be KO'd.
  3. Defeat King Hippo without using jabs
While this may seem impossible if you haven't read my guide, it is rather simple actually. Block and then counter his hooks and you will get stars. You can then tripple star punch him and repeat. You could also counter his double side smash, but you can't do anything about his overhead smashes, so just dodge those.

Contender - Major Circuit

Piston Hondo

Age: 28
From: Tokyo, Japan
Height: 5'10"
Weight: 174 lbs
Record: 26-1

Piston Hondo is a significant jump in dificulty from the previous circuit. He has a handfull of attacks and a serious Hondo Rush that you really should learn to counter.

Moves

  1. Left Jab
His left jab is preceded by a left eyebrow twitch. This can be countered with a right jab to the twitching eyebrow, dodged, ducked, or bocked.
  2. Right Hook
He takes a large step to his right and then throws the hook. This can be countered with a left Jab or ducked.
  3. Bow Taunt
He does a bow and flashes yellow.
  4. Right Uppercut
After you knocked Piston Hondo down once, he'll start to throw his right uppercut. He lunges to his right and then unleashes a large uppercut. This can be dodged to either side.
  5. Hondo Rush
Piston Hondo hops to the back of the ring and hops back and forth a few times then hops to the center. He then rushes forward with 3 jabs followed by an uppercut or hook. You will either need to block the jabs and then dodge left/right, or you can counter his Hondo Rush with a hook.

Stars

  1. Counter his left jab with a right jab when his eyebrow twitches.
  2. Jab him when he does his bow taunt and flashes yellow
  3. Jab him after he does an uppercut he is looking up and to your right. He will pause and look back at you. You need to jab him right as he looks back at you.

One Hit Knockdown

There are two one hit knockdowns. The first you just star punch him when you would normally attain a star from his bow taunt.

The second is to counter his hondo rush with a hook. You want to land the punch right as he is landing in front of you before the first jab.

Strategy

You should use a counter punch every time he jabs as the eyebrow twich is extremely easy to recognize and then counter punch for a star. His right hook and uppercut should be dodged which are faily easy to recognize.

He won't do the Hondo Rush unless 2 minutes go by or you have already knocked him down. Learning to counter his Hondo Rush is the key to winning this fight, becuase if you don't, you can expect a thorough beating if you don't time your blocks perfectly.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat Piston Hondo and land every punch
No cheap way to do this one. You have a few options here. You could just wait around for 3 Hondo Rushes in a single round, but I prefer to actually fight him since it goes a little faster. Get stars from his jab as that is easy to counter, and then star punch his bow taunt. You should be able to finish off the 3rd knockdown in the single round by countering his Hondo Rush.
  2. Find both one-punch knockdowns
They are detailed above in the One Hit Knockdown section.
  3. Defeat Piston Hondo with 34 or more hearts remaining
This isn't really that hard as you start with a lot of hearts. By exploiting the one hit knockdowns and avoiding his hook/uppercut you should be able to do this easily. If you aren't good at countering the Hondo Rush you have enoughhearts that you can block a few rushes and still complete the challenge.

Bear Hugger

Age: 32
From: Salmon Arm, BC, Canada
Height: 6'3"
Weight: 440 lbs
Record: 17-12 (10 KOs)

Bear Hugger is essentially the SNES version of King Hippo and a lot harder.

Moves

  1. Taunt 1
Bear Hugger bends down, puts his hands to his ears and sticks out his tounge at you.
  2. Right Overhand
Bear Hugger will raise his right hand over his head and bring it down. It is fairly quick, but easy to dodge or counter.
  3. Left Hook
Bear Hugger will step to the right and bring in a fast hook. This is easy to duck or counter. You can only dodge it to the left.
  4. Bear Hug
Bear Hugger will bring both arms over up, say "Need a hug?", flash red and bring both arms in from the side. This is very close to King Hippo's Double Side Smash attack. This can either be countered or ducked.
  5. Taunt 2
Bear Hugger steps back, puts his hands behind his head, and swings his gut around.

Stars

  1. Jab him when he sticks his tounge out at you.
  2. Counter his right overhand with either a left hook or jab. You need to land the punch right as his hand starts moving downward.
  3. During his left hook, counter him with a right hook right as he starts bringing his hand forward.
  4. During his bear hug, counter him with a jab right when he looks down.
  5. Hook him in the stomach when it is coming towards you during his second tuant.

One Hit Knockdown

Star Punch him when he sticks his tounge out at you.

Strategy

Star punches do a lot of damage to Bear Hugger, so make sure you know how to collect them. His Bear Hug is leathal, so if you don't know how to counter it consistently, I suggest ducking as it is very easy to do.

If you have a star and he does his tounge out taunt, make sure to unleash it as it will knock him down every time.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Win the fight and evade every Bear Hug
This is very easy. Just duck when he gets done saying "need a hug?"
  2. TKO Bear Hugger in Round 1
Nothing fancy you can do here. Earn lots of stars and take advantage of the one hit knockdown if you can. If you can counter everything but the Bear Hug and land the star punches this shouldn't be a problem.
  3. Find 5 different ways to earn stars
    See the Stars section.

Great Tiger

Age: 29
From: Mumbai, India
Height: 5'11"
Weight: 132 lbs
Record: 24-5 (3 KOs)

Great Tiger is a real pain especially if you have a habit of dodging away from hits all the time. With Great Tiger you must dodge toward the uppercut or you will get hit. Most players will probably lose to him a handful of times.

Moves

  1. Jewel Blink Punch
The jewel in his turban will blink either yellow or red. If it blinks yellow, jab it for a star. If it blinks red and you jab at him and he will disapear and then do an uppercut. You must dodge toward the uppercut. For either color, if you wait he will throw a jab which you can either dodge or block. You can counter his jab, but it is incredibly hard. The jewel will blink yellow less often the farther in the match you get.
  2. Left Uppercut
Great Tiger ducks quickly to your right and throws a quick uppercut. You must dodge toward him (to the right) or else you will get hit. You can hit him with a hook, but only while he is setting up, not while he is actually swinging.
  3. Right Uppercut
Great Tiger ducks quickly to your left and throws a slightly delayed uppercut. You must dodge toward him (to the left) or else you will get hit. You can hit him with a hook, but only while he is setting up, not while he is actually swinging.
  4. Rushing Magic Attack
Great Tiger moves to the back of the ring and creates a transparent clone of himself. If he has been knocked down, they could switch positions up to 5 times. The clone can't hurt you, but will always rush first followed by the real Great Tiger. The jewels will blink right before the rush. Do not try to dodge the clone and just watch the real Great Tigers jewel to know when to dodge. Again, you must dodge toward the side that Great Tiger is rushing from. If you have good timing, you can land a hook and knock him down.

Stars

  1. Jab him when the jewel in the turban blinks yellow.
  2. Counter Great Tigers Jab after the jewel blinks red with a right jab. This is tricky as sometimes he vanishes right before throwing the jab. While it is possible to get this star, it isn't worth it in most situations.
  3. When he is moving into a uppercut (lunging left/right) hit him with a hook on the appropriate side. This is more along the lines of luck than skill though, as you have a very short timeframe to hit him, and no real tell that it is coming.

One Hit Knockdown

When Great Tiger uses his Rushing Magic Attack, hit him with a hook on the side he is rushing from.

Strategy

Grab the star from the yellow jewel blink, but you should pretty much forget trying to get stars the other two ways. Due to Great Tigers low star potential, he has a high combo rate. So dodge and pound to your hearts content. Remember to dodge toward every punch and to block the jabs after the red jewel blink.

To end the fight early, I would suggest learning to counter the Rushing Magic Attack, but if you can't, just make sure you dodge toward the side of the real one after the jewel blinks and then pound away.

Once you get the dodging down for his uppercuts, Great Tiger will be more like a baby kitten.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat Great Tiger and evade EVERY Rushing Magic Attack!
Just make sure you dodge toward the real Great Tiger, and remember to ignore the clone.
  2. TKO or KO Great Tiger only using right jabs!
Rather self explanitory. This means no star punches, or one hit knockdowns, but you can still dizy him after every attack.
  3. TKO Great Tiger in only 3 punches!!!
Execute the One Hit Knockdown 3 times in a row. You need to dodge the rest of his attacks which shouldn't be too hard after you've learned to beat him.

Don Flamenco

Age: 23
From: Madrid, Spain
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 152 lbs
Record: 22-3 (9 KOs)

Don Flamenco comes with the largest set of moves, taunts you like crazy, and gets beat to death by the infinite combo.

Moves

  1. Right Uppercut
Don Flamenco says "Torro!", steps to your left and throws an uppercut. This can be dodged or countered.
  2. Delayed Right Uppercut
Same as above, except he says "Carmen mi amor" and the uppercut is delayed for a bit. This can also be dodged or countered.
  3. Tripple Hook
This is pretty much the only punch he will throw without taunting you first or having knocked off his toupee. He'll stepback, clap and say "Uno, Dos, Tres" then throw 3 right hooks. You can counter it with a star punch if you want, just hit the button at the same time you would have hit duck and you'll land an uppercut and will stop him from executing the punches. You can either dodge left or duck, but dodging left is the prefered method because ducking will lead to him throwing one of his uppercuts.
  4. Delayed Left Hook
Don Flamenco says "Ole!" and stands like a matador would be taunting a bull. He holds his left fist out the the side for a bit, flashes red and swings it in fast. You can dodge left or duck. He doesn't throw this until after he has been knocked down once.
  5. Double Clap Left Jab
Don Flamenco claps twice and then throws a quick jab. You can dodge, duck or counter with a jab after he claps the second time.
  6. Super Uppercut
Once you knock of Don's Toupee don will start throwing some of these. It is essentially an uppercut in between his regular and delayed version in terms of timing. You should dodge left, or counter with a left hook.

Stars

  1. Counter punch his quick right uppercut with a left hook as he starts to swing.
  2. Counter punch his delayed right uppercut with a left hook as he starts to swing.
  3. Use left dodge for his triple hook and then punch him with a hook when he flashes yellow.
  4. Counter punch his left hook with a right hook just as he turns red.
  5. Counter punch his left jab with a right jab right after he claps twice. The timing is very tight on this.
  6. Counter punch his super uppercut (alternate delayed right uppercut after tepee is knocked off) with a left hook as he starts to swing

Infinite Combo

Don Flamenco's Infinite combo from the NES days is back. After you finish a jab combo on him, he will sway to the side. You then hit him with a hook and he'll go the other way. You then hit him with a Jab, and you alternate hook, then jab from there on out. You need to land your punches as he starts to sway back towards the center.

Strategy

Don Flamenco is probably the most annoying charachter in the entire game because he refuses to throw the first punch. He would rather sit there and taunt you the entire match. So to start things off, just throw any punch and he will either block it or dodge, but get ready to dodge yourself, as he always counters.

The tripple hook is the only punch he'll throw without you throwing one first, and is the perfect oportunity to get a star. Remember to dodge left or you won't get the star.

After you've knocked him down twice and get him down below 50% health you can knock off his toupee with a normal punch. You can avoid this by saving a star punch and taking him out for the 3rd time that way. If you can do that, it will save you from the beserk mode where he uses his super uppercut which comes out a little faster.

Once Don is in beserk mode he will stay that way until the next round, but if you knock him down again he will go right back into it.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Knock Don's Toupee off in Round 1!!
There are two ways to do this. Get lots of stars and take his health down fast (remember to throw a normal punch to knock it off) or you can infinite combo him 3 times.
  2. KO or TKO Don in a round where he has not thrown more than 3 punches!
Very few challenges are as hard and annoying as this one. The infinite combo can come to your aid again, or you'll have to knock him down twice in round 1 & 2, and then take 3 stars into round 3 where you'll have to stun him and then unleash your 3 star punch. You'll probably have to try this a handful of times before you manage to get this one.
  3. Find 6 different ways to earn Star.
    See the Stars section above.

Contender - World Circuit

Aran Ryan

Age: 23
From: Dublin, Ireland
Height: 6'1"
Weight: 160 lbs
Record: 18-10 (16 KOs)

Aran Ryan may be on drugs and completely crazy, and to top it off has Irish luck and fights like any good Irish man would.

Moves

  1. Right Overhand Smash
While standing right in front of you he takes two steps forward with his hand overhead, flashes red and he brings his fist down on you. Use a jab as he flashes red to stun him.
  2. Right Hook
When he is on your left he shakes his fist and then glows red then throws a quick hook. This can be dodged or ducked and countered with a hook.
  3. Taunt
He steps towards you and wipes his face with his left hand then does a gesture and flashes yellow.
  4. Left Hook
Aran Ryan stands to your right, taps his head twice, glows red, and then jumps in with a hook. This can be countered by using a right hook at the second tap. You can also duck or dodge this.
  5. Counter Uppercut
If you dodge and counter, he will throw an uppercut right back at you. This can be dodged.
  6. Headbutt
After he gets knocked down once he will jump on the ropes at the back of the ring. He'll bounce a few times and then turn red, turn around and jump straight at you head first. This can be blocked, dodged or counterd with a jab. To counter the headbutt, you have to jab right as he starts to launch at you.

Stars

  1. Jab him when he flashes yellow when he taunts
  2. Counter punch his right hook with a left hook when he starts to move toward you
  3. Block Aran Ryan's headbutt (you must press up when he jumps at you, not hold it down) and then hook him when he is stunned
  4. Dodge any punch and hit him with a jab. Then dodge his counter uppercut and and hit him again. (jabs work, but I prefer a left hook)

Strategy

Aran Ryan is crazy and it shows. He is imune to stunning if you dodge and then punch, so no use trying that unless you want to earn a star as you can only land 1 punch. Instead you have to counter punch everything to get combos in, so make sure you've practiced your counter punches. Whenever you stun him you can land 7 lucky combo punches, so make sure you get all of them in. All of his attacks are easy enough to combo or block, so with a little practice he shouldn't be too hard.

For the headbutt, I suggest always blocking as it gives you a star and they seem to do extra damage to Aran Ryan.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Land 7 Star Punches during the fight!
Just earn 7 Stars and then unleash it on him. You'll have to be good at countering so you can stun him and not lose your stars.
  2. KO or TKO Aran Ryan without getting hit!
This isn't really all that hard to do once you get counter punching down. Block the headbutt and earn extra stars that way.

Soda Popinski

Age: 35
From: Moscow, Russia
Height: 6'6"
Weight: 237 lbs
Record: 33-2 (24 KOs)

The only drinker in the game turns his life around and gets addicted to pop. Not only that he legally changed his name from Vodka Drunkenski. Hey, at least he doesn't suffer from massive hangovers any more. To top it off, the caffine in his drinks makes all his moves really fast.

Moves

  1. Left Jab
This is a really fast punch where there is a whoosh sound, he steps back, and then quickly turns red and punches you. You can dodge, duck or counter this with a right jab.
  2. Uppercut
Soda Pop quickly ducks to the left or right and unleashes an uppercut. Again, this is a really fast punch and you must dodge to the side it is coming from.
  3. Drunken Punch
Soda Popinski takes a step to your right and then punches. You can either dodge left or duck.
  4. Drink
After he gets knocked down and at random intervals, Soda Popinski will step to the side, pull out a soda bottle, hold it up, and say something in Russian. If he drinks it he regains ~60% of his health. Jab the bottle to knock it out of his hand before he drinks it and he'll go straight into the next move.
  5. Mad Rush
Soda Popinski will use this after ever knockdown, if you knock the soda bottle out of his hand, or you hit him with a star punch. He will throw 3-4 uppercuts in a row. You have to be careful with the 4th, as it may or may not come. If you can dodge all of them you can get a nice long combo in.

Stars

  1. Counter his left jab with a right jab. It is fast, so jab as soon as he starts moving back into his jab.
  2. When he holds out a soda bottle jab it with whatever side he is on.

Strategy

Soda Popinski is by far the fastest puncher you've met yet. While he really only has 3 punches (and a few variations) they come out so fast they are hard to recognize. Learning the patterns for each knockdown can be helpful but isn't necessary.

The real key to beating Soda Popinski is to always knock the bottle out of his hand and to succesfully dodge his mad rush. If you can do those two things you should be able to pull off a win.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Stop Soda Pop from drinking EVERY time he holds out his bottle!
This isn't hard, just make sure you jab on whatever side he holds the bottle out on.
  2. Go a full round without losing a Heart!
You could fight him and manage to not get hit or blocked, but a slightly easier way is to just dodge his pattern before his first knockdown as it was the easiest to remember. His pattern goes like so,

    Left Jab x 2
    Right Uppercut x 2
    Left Jab x 2
    Right Uppercut x 2
    Left Uppercut

He then repeats that until he is knocked down. You can also throw in some punches just to delay his pattern, but you risk getting blocked.

  3. TKO Soda Pop with at least 1:11 remaining on the clock in round 1
This easily comes in as the 2nd hardest contender mode challenge only behind Mr. Sandman's 3rd challenge. Essentially you need a perfect fight that looks something like this.

    Counter first two jabs
Dodge and Combo first uppercut and star punch to end
    Dodge and Combo second uppercut
    Counter first jab
Dodge and Combo second jab and finish with a star punch. He should go down here.

He gets back up, dodge the mad rush and combo him.
Knock the soda bottle out of his hands and dodge the next mad rush.
Counter his left jab and imediatly use your star punch

He gets back up, dodge the mad rush and combo him.
Knock the soda bottle out of his hands and dodgge the next mad rush.
Counter the next jab and star punch him for the TKO.

Bald Bull

Age: 36
From: Istanbul, Turkey
Height: 6'2"
Weight: 298 lbs
Record: 34-5 (27 KOs)

The easiest of the World Champions due to his easy one hit knockdown, however he can be quite tough due to his Bull Charge being a one hit knockdown on you too.

Moves

  1. Rolling Jabs
Bald Bull rolls his fists around in a circle for a bit, flashes red and unleashes a jab on the side he is facing. You can dodge or duck this.
  2. Right Uppercut
Bald Bull crouches down and quickly throws a right uppercut. Dodge left (or right).
  3. Pumping Fist Hook
Bald Bull pumps his right fists twice, says something like "Al ah" and throws a quick hook. This can be dodged, ducked or countered (preferably a left hook).
  4. Bull Charge
Bald Bull moves to the back of the ring, turns red (this time from pure rage) and steam comes out his nose from being so mad. He rushes at you fast. If he hits you you'll be down instantly regardless of health. You can dodge or counter his attack with a hook.
  5. Taunt

Stars

  1. Jab him when he taunts. This taunt doesn't always come out, but it will come out right away if you let him hit you with his very first right uppercut
  2. Jab him twice after his rolling jab. Jab him again right when his head is centering
  3. Jab him four times after his right uppercut. Jab him two more times as his head is centering
  4. Counter punch his pumping fist hook with a left hook. This has a very tiny window and you need to land the hook right as he starts to swing.

One Hit Knockdown

Hook or star punch Bald Bull as he is rushing with his Bull Charge. You want to land the hook right as he reaches you. To hit with the star punch you need to hit A after he finishes blowing steam from his nose (right before he starts charging at you)

Strategy

Bald Bull lives and dies by his Bull Charge. Learn to counter it and you'll have the easiest fight of the World Circuit. If you can't get the timing down, then you are in for a challenge and will have to dodge it and wear him down over time.

There are plenty of star opportunities, and they are low risk due to not having to counter punch. Make sure you grab one after every one of his attacks.

He also has longer tells than Soda Popinski, so dodging should be a little easier for you.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Hit Bald Bull during his Bull Charge... With a Star Punch!
This is fairly simple. Get a Star using one of the methods above, and hit the A button after he finishes blowing the steam out of his nose.
  2. TKO or KO Bald Bull in round 1
If you can earn stars and counter his Bull Charge you'll have no problems with this. You can typically take him out twice in a row with the Bull Charge for the TKO.
  3. Find 4 different ways to earn stars
    See the Star section above.

Super Macho Man

Age: 27
From: Hollywood, CA, USA
Height: 6'4"
Weight: 242 lbs
Record: 35-1 (28 KOs)

The pretty boy of the game also comes with a leathal clothesline.

Moves

  1. Right Uppercut
Super Macho Man steps to your left, turn red and says "Crunch ... Time". He only says time if he manages to connect, so you need to dodge left right after the "Crunch".
  2. Left Uppercut
This is essentially a mirroed and slightly delayed version of the right uppercut. So dodge a little later and to the right.
  3. Taunt
Super Macho Man poses in the center and says "Photo op". Jab him when he flashes yellow.
  4. Clothesline
Only used after his first knock down, Super Macho Man lifts up his left fist, shakes it, and then spins around in a clothes line. You must duck this. If you get hit it will take around 2/3rds of your stamina.
  5. Right Hook
Super Macho Man steps to your left, flashes red, and says "Pump It". The hit comes in on the "It" so make sure you duck or dodge.
  6. Tripple Clothesline
Super Macho Man puts on his sunglasses while says "Super... Macho... Man", he then shines really bright, raises his left fist and shakes it, and then follows with three clotheslines in a row. There is a slight pause between each one. If he hits you it is an instant knock down, so make sure you duck in time.

Stars

  1. Jab him when he taunts
  2. Dodge his right uppercut, then jab him in the face until he gets knocked to the side. Jab him twice more as he centers.
  3. Dodge his left uppercut, then hit him with a delayed left hook a little bit after you finish dodging.

Strategy

Super Macho Man is extremely easy once you get the timing down on his clotheslines, but they can be tricky for quite a while. Before he gets knocked down he will only use uppercuts, so use that as a chance to rack up some stars and then knock him down.

After the first time he is knocked down he will start using his clothesline and jab. Whenever he gets up he starts out with a clothesline so be prepared.

For the Tripple Clothesline if you have a star use it, as it saves you from ducking, speeds things up, and is an easy way to land a punch.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Win the fight and evade EVERY Clothesline attack!
This isn't too hard to do, and you should be doing it anyways when you beat him.
  2. Find 3 different ways to earn Stars
    See the Stars section above.
  3. Defeat Super Macho Man in Round 1!
The only way to do this is to earn lots of stars. You don't have to counter anything, so once you have dodging down this should be fairly easy. You can use stars against his Tripple Clothesline to speed things up a little if you need to.

Mr. Sandman

Age: 33
From: Philadelphia, PA, USA
Height: 6'5"
Weight: 269 lbs
Record: 31-0 (31 KOs)

Mr. Sandman comes at you like a train and will put you to sleep before you can even put up a fight.

Moves

  1. Left Overhand
Mr. Sandman raises his left hand, turns red, and brings his fist down fast. You can dodge or counter with a right jab.
  2. Delayed Right Overhand
Same as the left overhand, except he pauses and says "Stand Still", then turns red and brings his fist down. You can dodge or counter with a left jab.
  3. Right Jab
Mr. Sandman makes a fairly large circular movement while stepping to your left and then throws a quick jab. There isn't a lot of time to recognize this punch. You can counter with a left hook or dodge it.
  4. "Boo" Taunt
Mr. Sandman will jump toward you and say "Boo!"
  5. Delayed Left Hook
Only used after he has been knocked down once, Mr. Sandman steps to your right, says "Night night", and then throws a left hook. Ducking is highly recommended unless you are going to counter him.
  6. Dreamland Express
Mr. Sandman takes a step back, says "Afraid?", and throws three quick uppercuts. He tries to fake you out by saying "Boo!" up to two times. It comes at the same time as the uppercuts, so dodging it shouldn't hurt you.

Stars

  1. Counter his left overhand with a right jab. You have almost no tell, so be really quick.
  2. Counter his right delayed overhand when he flashes red with a left jab
  3. Counter his right jab with a left hook.
  4. Counter his delayed left hook as he is moving towards you with a right hook.
  5. Duck his delayed left hook, then hit him with a hook right as he is recovering into his normal stance.
  6. Jab him when he does his "Boo" taunt.
  7. Dodge his Dreamland Express, then hit him with a hook.

Strategy

If you thought other fighters were tough, Mr. Sandman will destroy you. You really need to learn to counter everything and get stars. He starts off with a fairly simple pattern of 2 left overhands, right overhand, left overhand, right overhand, jab, left overhand, right overhand, then boo taunt. From there it repeats until you knock him down the first time. After that it depends on how and when you knock him down for his other patterns, so you are on your own from here on out.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Win the fight and evade every Dreamland Express (3 Uppercut Combo).
This is self explanitory and fairly easy to do once you have the timing down.
  2. Find 7 different ways to earn Stars.
    See the Stars section above.
  3. Win the fight without dodging, ducking, or blocking a punch!
This is by far the hardest challenge in the contender mode. You essentially need to counter every punch. It is near impossible to counter his dreamland express, but it is possible. If you can manage, you have to counter all 3 uppercuts, but even stopping 1 could keep you alive. After you get knocked down he'll throw 4-5 punches before throwing another dreamland express, so make sure to earn 3 stars and then unleash them imediatly. Good luck!

Title Defense - World B

Title Defense Glass Joe

Glass Joe is back with some new headgear and ready to fight. The headgear protects him from all Jabs, but has poorly built straps as it can be knocked off with a star punch.

Moves

  1. Taunt 1
Glass Joe taps his headgear with one hand flaunting his new invincibility. To bad he leaves that side open for a quick hook
  2. Left/Right Jab
Same as the first fight, except you can't jab counter it due to Glass Joe's new headgear. The left jab doesn't come out until after the first knockdown, and farther in the fight he will sometimes hop left and right before throwing his jab.
  3. Right Hook
Same as the first fight, and you can still counter it with a left hook.
  4. Delayed Right Hook
Same as the right hook only he looks down and pauses for a little while. When he looks up he throws his right hook essentially the same way as the non-delayed version. You can counter this with a left hook the same way.
  5. Taunt 2
Glass Joe steps back and yells "Viva la France" and steps back to center. This is essentially the same as the first fight.
  6. Fake Taunt
This looks like the "Viva la France" taunt, but instead he says something else and fakes a step forward, then comes forward and throws a jab.

One Hit Knockdown

When Glass Joe does Taunt 2, hit him with a hook right as he is stepping back to the center of the ring. If you time it correctly he will go down regardless of how much health he has.

Stars

  1. When Glass Joe taps his headgear, hook him on the side he is tapping.
  2. Counter his right hook with a left hook.
  3. Counter his delayed right hook with a left hook.
  4. Knock off his headgear with a star punch, then jab him until the headgear turns yellow and then hit him with a hook.
  5. Counter his jabs with a hook
  6. Dodge and then combo him. Hit him with a hook as he recenters his body.

Strategy

Glass Joe starts off with Taunt #1, so grab the easy star there. After that, you can either dodge and combo him with hooks, which will be the long road to a knockdown, or you can use your star and continue to wail on his fragile glass chin.

To make Glass Joe extra easy, you can even infinite loop him by picking up a star after you knock his headgear off and then quickly launching another star punch which should knock his headgear off again.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat Glass Joe and land EVERY punch.
There are 2 easy ways to do this. First, you could inifinite loop him until you TKO him, or, you can just defeat glass joe in 4 punches, since you have to do that anyways.
  2. Land 50 Jabs
To Land a jab you need to knock off Glass Joe's headgear with a star punch. The more stars you use, the more jabs you can get in per combo, but I find it easier to use 1 star at a time. You can land all 50 jabs across any of the rounds, so if you come close to TKO'ing him, just let the round end and go into the next one. The 50th jab will instantly KO Glass Joe.
  3. Defeat Glass Joe using only 4 punches.
This is fairly easy if you are good at picking up stars. Grab the first star via taunt 1, then hook any 2 punches you like for stars. You then need to dodge for a while until he does taunt 2. Right after he says "France" throw your tripple star punch for the knock out.

Title Defense Von Kaiser

Moves

  1. Left Jab
The same as the first fight. You'll hear a ticking sound and his head will shake as he pulls back for the jab. This can be dodged, ducked, and blocked. Counter this with a quick right jab while he is shaking his head. The timing is tighter for the counter.
  2. Right Hook
The sasme as the first fight. Von Kaiser steps to his right and then throws a delayed hook. This can be dodged to either side. Counter it with a left hook.
  3. Left Hook
Same as the right hook only delayed longer.
  4. Right Jab
An audio cue is played and he throws a fast right jab. This cannot be countered.
  5. Spinning Attack
Von Kaiser moves back and then comes yells and comes spinning towards you from either the left or right. This will knock you down unless you dodge in the opposite direction. This is used after every knockdown and randomly after you knock Von Kaiser down twice.
  6. Fake Hook
After Von Kaiser has been knocked down he'll throw fake hooks that look almost exactly like his regular hooks.

Stars

  1. Counter his left jab with a right jab.
  2. Counter his left hook with a right hook.
  3. Counter his right hook with a left hook.
  4. Counter his fake left hook with a right hook (when he finishes speaking)
  5. Counter his fake right hook with a left hook (when he finishes speaking)
  6. Get him to dodge a star punch and then hook him on whatever side he dodges too.
  7. Combo him and then get him to dodge by following up with a jab. Hook him on whatever side he dodges too.

Strategy

Von Kaiser is a lot harder than before when you first start fighting him. Von Kaiser no longer hides and you can't use any one hit knockdowns on him. The key is to get down the counter punches and to earn stars all the time. Once you know how to earn stars on his fake punches he should be more than easy enough.

If you suck at earning stars though, you can use two delayed jabs after your combos, so make sure you take advantage of those.

Exhibition Challenges

  1. Defeat Von Kaiser and never get hit by his spinning attack.
Pay attention and you should have no problem with this.
  2. Never dodge or duck one of Von Kaiser's fake hooks.
Just try to counter punch everything and you should be fine. You may get hit once or twice if you mistake a real hook for a fake one, but you should easily be able to come out on top.
  3. Find 7 different ways to earn Stars.

Game Secrets

Here are a few things you can do to make your fight easier.

Regain Health Between Rounds

Press the '-' button in between rounds and Doc Louis will eat his chocolate bar. Somehow this restores your health even though you get nothing. Don't try to trick the system though, if you use it with full health it may take some of yours away. This can only be used once during a fight so don't waste it.

Regain Health When Opponent is Knocked Down

When your oponent is on the mat tap 1 & 2 repeatedly (or shake the controls if using motion controls). This will regain your health.

Prevent a KO/TKO

If you are fast enough you can prevent a KO/TKO by hitting the 1 & 2 buttons (or shake the controls if using motion controls) right as the animation starts. Little Mac will get a surge of strength and not fall to the mat.

Headgear

If you suck so bad that you lost 100 times, you get boxing headgear which reduces the damage you take
