I think Madworld 'll sell well until Xmas. So my predicition is taht the game may be rise to the range 450-500k. And for the "other mature games" from sega, my prediction is as follows (during the same time):
The House of The Dead Overkill: 600k.
The conduit: 650k
Let's see!!

Selling 5K+ a week again in America :), and still doing 2K a week in Others so yeah 350K lifetime isn't too bad imo. Compared to what Platinum games/clover studios used to get I consider this good.

Goog sales, and I explain why. Certainy is a Hardcore game, but, furthermore, is a very unique game, and not as popular as other franchises in the industry. So, for a new type of Videogame is a good start. Dead Space for the 360 is not a million seller yet, and is a "Hardcore console", so keep in calm. Almost 300k are good numbres. And with over 340k THOTD: Overkill is doing also well. A lot of titles don't need to reach the million marck in ordre to be succesful!!

Do not forget that Only 5% of the Wii market is "Mature". Of that 5% only 4% people bought this game. If only 10% of that 5% would buy this game. Then we would get a sequel for sure.

chris100185 posted 13/06/2009, 12:26
People seem to be forgetting one thing. As fun as the game is (and it is fun though a bit repetitious) it only takes roughly 6-8 hours to beat, and there's minimal replay value. Hard to justify the $50 price point.

UpperTone, that was a very concise, mature observation. Most people making such an observation would do something such as "Screeew the Wii-ner, sux0rs!!! go NATAL!!! omg Wii sucks." What you say is sadly true. There are not many takers of hardcore games on Wii. I actually know many 'core' gamers who own Wii's, but many of them only get Ninty games (Mario, Zelda, Metroid) and stick to 360 for the 'core' games. It sucks for Platinum Games because this game looks awesome (plan on purchasing it when I get out of debt next month.)
Message | Report
DOLBYdigital posted 10/06/2009, 01:51
I believe it has a price drop so it is sad to see the sales still lagging. I believe most people have put this game behind them and are looking to the new releases. Which is a shame since this is truly a gem.

Hopefully Platinum Games will give us a Sequel which they said they want to or at least another game on Wii since they are such an amazing dev.

uppertone posted 09/06/2009, 08:07
Not trying to bash on you Wii owners but I'm sure if this was a 360 exclusive instead, sales would had been more than triple, despite that the wii has a higher userbase only about 10-15% are harcore games interested in games such as this and NMH, i predict slow sales for the Conduit too, sadly.
But keep supporting, maybe if they continue releasing games like this and the conduit, it'll bring more harcore gamers to the Wii

Its too bad some people feel that way about the presentation. Personally I think that if we dont reward developers that take these kinds of chances then all we will get are typical Realistic presentations.

Realism isnt bad but there needs to be more than just HYPER REALISTIC PORE LEVEL SWEAT GLAND. Plus the Style of Madworld is appropriate to the content and allows alot more dramatic gameplay.

Speaking about madworld, I think this game 'll sell at least between 500k and 700k trough the next months. Just get patience. Wii games usually runs slow, but a lot continues selling a lot of months after be realased.

naruto3336 how isn't this a niche game? It's not exactly a ultra niche game like Little King Story, but it one because how many people who own a Wii would actually think of this as there style of game? Not many adults (like 40+) who brought the Wii for things like Wii Fit and Mario Kart, no little kids like 10 year olds ( because most parents won't buy it for them). And not even some people within the most likely age group of buying the game (15-30 years). One of friends who's 17 and owns a Wii doesn't want this, he says it's not his type of game and would rather by COD:WaW instead. So how isn't this a niche game, if it wasn't it would to everyone (or at least a lot more people). No more heroes is another example of this, although the sales actually caught on for it.

I can't explain how people expected this game to sell millions. Is boring and repetitive and the only good points are the presentation and art direction. But the game is highly mediocre and tedious. Is strictly a niche game, like Okami and Viewtiful joe. Please stop using it as a meter for wii mature games. Is just unrealistic. The wii had great games. This is not one of them.

this is not a game to make 400k in the first month and then die :), this is a game to have looooooooooong legs. A lot of games in the Wii did the same numbers and got 1 million with the time. And remember, this game is very very expensive (I don't got my copy because this game is expensive ¬¬), the game probably already gave a profit just because of the price

This talk of profits and whatnot seems ridiculous. We have no figures. How can you tie any profits to units sold without concrete development/marketing budget information? Anything is speculation.

My guess is that the game did not cost a great deal of money to produce. If I remember correctly, Madworld was without a publisher for a short time before Sega picked up the deal with Platinum Games in distribution. So that would imply that Platinum probably put in a fair amount of work with their own funds without the aide of Sega and considering that it's a fledgling new studio, I can't imagine that they'd pour millions upon millions into Madworld.

These sales are very mediocre and I think that's about all you can say about them. They aren't putrid, but for a console that's starving for hardcore content according to many publications, this is not the kind of response you would expect.

If $8.5m was the creation cost...($39.99 x 180,000) = $7.2m

After nearly 2 months, it would've made 85% of its cost back. Sounds good to me.

With forseeable legs of at least 4k a week worldwide for the next 4 months (17 weeks), it is a guaranteed profit.

OK, I'll play ball. I haven't played the game, but from what I have heard, quality costs money.

Say it was $6m MAX to make, advertising could've been reduced be being coupled with House of The Dead: Overkill; $1.25m advertising in each territory, that is 2/5 of the games dev cost.

.....I get $8.5m lol, the cost I said for strictly development. Can we agree on $8.5m (give or take a couple $100k)?

puffy posted 29/04/2009, 01:26
Have you played the game SaviourX? It would have cost $6 Million MAX in dev costs.

$8.5 Million is nearly half of Mario Galaxy's budget and that was in development for 3 years at least. MadWorld had between 12 - 18 months with a small team.

All up Sega would not have spent over $10 Million on this game, marketing costs included

14 dollars profit per copy is bullshit, and you know it. The game is selling for $50, so Sega is making at least $20 per copy.

HD games cost 10-20M on average nowadays, whereas only a big game on Wii (SMG) will reach 15-20M.
PS2 games costed 5-8M in 2005, thus I think we can assume about 7-8M between development and marketing. At 14 dollars profit for the publisher per copy, that means a 500-570k sales at full price to break even. It looks like it will take some time to go into the black.

Bullshit.

The average cost of a HD game is probably about 10 million. The average of a Wii game is like 2 million (similar to last gen... although it would be higher if Devs were making more of an effort)

My bet i this is about average costing, although the marketing was ok, so that probably equals development costs itself.

I'd say $5 million total to develop AND market this game.

Lots of legs titles on the Wii just stay on the shelf at retailers, and sell by nature of being available. I don't think the situation is the same for this one.

350K will be okay though.

Hard Mode really extends the replay value of this great game. One of the better action beat em up games I have played in awhile with great story, graphics, and gameplay. Complete package that is worthy of great sales and a SEQUEL. Write Platinum Games to let them know what you think about the game.

I haven't seen it mentioned here yet, and don't know where to post it otherwise, but Sega France (and maybe in some other countries as well) made a really cool promo pack for game reviewers, you can watch it in video there: http://wii.jeuxvideo.org/2009/04/12/le-kit-presse-sanglant-de-madworld/

I think (for now) sales will average around 6.5k in NA and 3.5k in Others for a couple months. At least that is what I hope will happen, so it gets close to 10k every week.
