@Darwinianevolution Looks like it.A 75% increase YoY is nothing to sneeze at, seeing how even 2012 sales were lower. It was an 80% boost in North America, where it was a Select for most of the year. Heck, sales in December 16 nearly match all of 2015!

Can it get that final 400k to pass Phantom Hourglass and become the best selling handheld Zelda? Counting single SKU's otherwise Link's Awakening still easily beats it at a combined 6.2-ish.

Ha! It surpassed poor Skyward Sword. So happy this remake did absolutely amazing, a game three generations old, still pulling numbers a lot of new, original games launched with a high amount of fanfare couldn't even hope to reach.

Should hit 3m in a few weeks and stay there for the rest of its life. But 3M is a nice achievement for a simple remake. (which not to mention, is not even a remake in HD, it's simply better textures and better gameplay).

It sells pretty decent. Guess that shows the power of this game. It sells on par with Spirit Tracks, so it's safe to assume it'll reach 3.5m at least. Which is awesome for a remake of a now 14 year old game!

I think this has a good chance to get to 3m by the years end, especially with the extra 3ds's being sold due to nsmb2. People will be looking for a killer second or third title and this will be one of the games that gets a boost.

Sales were adjusted down since my last post, but it's still done very well for itself. 3.5-4 million lifetime is what I suspect. It may look like it will take a while, but if the 3DS has at least another 4 years in it, I can see it happening, especially if the 3DS ends up very popular again with a strong game released or a remodel.

I think this has to be the best performing of all the HD remakes because it's managed to make the most money in the shortest amount of time. Kudos to Nintendo and I think they should keep it up with a Mario 64 and Majora's Mask remake.

3 million, in the first year for a 13 year old remake, is unbelievable. Anyone who thinks the sales for OOT3D are low is delusional. Most games that hit the market don't sell 3 million, let alone 13 year old remakes. Not only that, with the 3DS surging, it is on pace to pass Phantom Hourglass and Spirit Tracks.

JTurner82 posted 08/01/2012, 06:20
SKYWARD SWORD's Japanese six week total may not be as large as TWILIGHT PRINCESS, but it's at least 32.5k above that of OoT3D's six-week total of about 270k. Of course this game would sell more because it's more recognized, but SS is really not doing that badly.

5 million lifetime is still low, IMHO I think this is the 3DS "Mario 64" it will keep selling as long as people keep buying 3DS
Message | Report
Roar_Of_War posted 03/01/2012, 06:59
Nintendo PR left this game out when they stated the 3DS's first million sellers in the US. Does that mean this game is overtracked there, or did they leave out bundles? Super Mario 3D Land has sold above 2 million, yet they only counted it as a 1 million seller. It's vague enough to leave us scratching our heads, but maybe they left out bundles in general for Mario and Zelda 3DS.

I must admit I was way off a few months ago when I said 3m tops. I wouldn't like to say now! If I had to guess I would say maybe 6-7 million lifetime. Its always going to sell a steady stream so should at the very least get to 5m.

Roar_Of_War posted 31/12/2011, 04:11
@oni-link: This game has already sold 2.91 million. The first year for the 3DS isn't even over yet. 3.5 million lifetime at this point is laughable, no offense. This will surely sell beyond 4 million in its lifetime. 5 million might be possible..if the 3DS last 5 years, I really think it is.
Message | Report
Roar_Of_War posted 31/12/2011, 04:06
Can't deny that these sales are very, very impressive. OoT is being a system seller right now. Although it's true that it comes with a 3DS design you can't find anywhere else, It's also not the bundle alone that is pushing this game this holiday. It's surely helping (just as it is with SM3DL), but these bundles are very hard to find right now. (I sure can't, at least. They're limited, I think). Overall, you can't argue against these numbers very much. People are paying extra for the bundle and deeming OoT 3D worth it (and its only a small design difference, it's still cosmo black).
Message | Report
knocturnal2435 posted 30/12/2011, 10:48
And I know the "bundle" helps, but lets not pretend that people aren't paying for the game. A standard 3DS is $170 and the people who purchased the bundle paid... what $200-$210? They might not be picking up the game individually, but they're still paying the extra value for the game.

Tremendous sales! A 13 year old remake pushes 1.5 million in the USA alone, at full price? Wow. Props on that. Phantom Hourglass topped out at 1.6 million USA and Spirit Tracks topped out at 1.2 million. This will easily surpass those two and likely become the first hand held Zelda since Link's Awakening to push 2+ million USA. Great job. Glad to see a new generation playing the classic I grew up with. It probably won't hit the same kind of global numbers that Phantom Hourglass / Spirit Tracks did, but Nintendo has to be happy with this.

5 mil is a bit too much to ask for a remake. I'd say it did quite well and surpassed my expectations on what it should sell. Nintendo, must be very happy with these numbers. I predict 3.5-4 mil lifetime.
