The closer christmas comes, the more I feel like playing Zelda. Don't have a 3DS yet, but when I get one (end of the probably, when I'm done with Skyward Sword and cannot resist Mario 3D Land & Kart any longer) this will be a sure buy. Guess it will keep selling steadily, because I don't think I'm the only one.

Again, this is pretty good for a remake on a handheld no one wants to buy. This game was advertised strongly compared to other 3DS games, but this game would've still gone on to be a n above million seller. It should definitely reach 2 million at this rate.

Roar_Of_War posted 02/09/2011, 06:07
@Oni-Link That's not true. I mean, 3 million max might be true, but I know a lot of people who love Zelda and aren't buying this. Either because of them not wanting the 3DS itself, or because they've already played OoT and don't feel incentive to buy it all over again (it makes it worse that they'd have to buy a 3DS to get the game as well).

It's kind of sad that this is what we look at as a high success for a game on the 3DS. While these numbers are "good" for a game in general, for Zelda, it is somewhat low. While this is also a remake/port, this game is getting somewhat strong advertising (although that doesn't always help much). This game will keep selling, but you'd expect more out of it. It seems that all software, no matter the franchise, will take a hit on the 3DS, unless Nintendo can reverse the damage soon and get all of these games to leg out better.

Also, the week before OoT 3D released, the 3DS sold 20k in the US. It looks like OoT 3D is still pulling in some hardware sales for 3DS a bit. This was a good system seller..but I honestly don't think Luigi's Mansion or Kid Icarus are going to sell much hardware at all, if any. Mario Kart and Super Mario 3D are bound to, though.

This will reach 1.20 lifetime about..assuming the worst, of course. Also, this game isn't that under-tracked. The game released on June 19th in the US, and that gave it almost two full weeks for 280k. What VGchartz has in the first two weeks is about 275k.

@JapanFan: Super Mario 64 DS was on a much stronger system Peole don't want a 3DS that much right now, especially not for a remake. If this released on DS in its prime, It probably could've hit 3-4 million sales. Still, over a million for the 3DS is very good. 1.20-1.50 is my guess, and this is just a remake.

I'm going to risk any credibility I have and predict eventual sales of 4 million. Laugh if you want, but SM64DS's sales were over 75% of the original's and Ocarina of Time on the 64 sold 7.5 million copies. As for the GameCube and Virtual Console rereleases, I think you are overestimating both their popularity and relevance amongst handheld gamers.

@Jumpin Kirby Superstar originally released very late in the SNES's life. Of course the port sold better when a lot of people didn't get a chance to play it, especially when a whole new audience was available for it.

Jumpin posted 10/07/2011, 06:36
Jon Erich, that is untrue, the remake of Kirby Superstar sold 1.5 million more units than the original, or twice as good.

Also, again, this is a remake that you can get for $10 on the Virtual Console (which has sold quite well there, too).

Roar_Of_War posted 09/07/2011, 10:19
This game will sell over 1 million. How much over a million? We'll see..it all depends on thsoe legs. Right now it looks like the legs could lead it to barely over 1 million if the legs continue to slow and drop, like 1.10 million. If it continues this path though, Christmas and price drops could help it get to 1.50 mill lifetime. It'll definitely get somewhat past 1 million, though. Keep in mind the Nintendogs + Cats bombed big time, so I think it's safe to say that 3DS software sales are always going to be disappointing no matter the franchise.

Jon-Erich posted 09/07/2011, 09:34

In Japan, A Link To THe Past + Four Swords sold about 34k. Zelda remakes/ports tend to sell less over there, so I wouldn't expect it to do more than 50k lifetime over there, and that's assuming the 3DS picks up. 30-40k lifetime is more realistic, since this seems to be selling about as good as Professor Layton 3DS did over there.

This is the kind of game that will sell a lot more in the near future due to word of mouth. A lot of people probably held off because they thought it was a quick and dirty cash-in port. Once word gets around that it's a lush and careful upgrade, with so many nice new features, it will turn into an evergreen title for 3DS.

I don't think ZELDA SKYWARD SWORD would really bomb in Japan, because, while it is true that the series isn't as huge there as it is here, the fact that ZELDA still manages to pull in numbers like this really shows that there is still an interest, and that Nintendo won't let it drop so easiy.

Now it looks decent, I hate to say it, but people who overrated it....thanks for off balancing people who underrated it. My score will roughly be 9.2.

Score is up to 8.5. A bit lower than expected. I gave it a 10 btw.

Just bought this, but can't add it to my games list, because it isn't the 16th in the US yet. :P Looking forward to receiving that soundtrack CD!

I don't have a 3DS, but I think I'll buy this for the soundtrack. Then later I'll get a 3DS
