Twisted Metal (2012) (PS3) > Opinions (51)

Mr Puggsly posted 17/03/2016, 02:46
I finally got around to playing this on my PS3 thanks to it being on PS Plus.

I'm not sure what to think of it. Its pretty true to the previous games and the story stuff is impressive. But the car combat genre just isnt appealing anymore, atleast not like this.

Personally, I think I just want a Motorstorm style racer with a Twisted Metal theme. Perhaps put the arena combat stuff in there as a different mode. Because the series as is doesent have a big following.

Should be Free on PSN just to get the online numbers up and hopefully build a little bit of user base if there is ever a sequel.

This game broke 500k while still being full launch price, right? I'm sure it did. I wonder how much Twisted Metal 2 sold while still being full price. Its legs are MAD slow but it should still leg it to 1 mill. I think we will see another TM on PS4.

NA has always been 'the' market for Twisted Metal games, look at any of the other entries.

Shame this has only sold 600k. If they hadn't had the horrible matchmaking issues at launch, I wonder if it would've done better.

NA seems to be pulling this up on its own. More advertising.

I grew up on the early games of twisted metal and plan on buying this game.Like Starhawk this game had little advertising but if true twisted metal fans buy this game it will survive this slow start. 1 year from now we will see what happens.

Seems to be holding at 10K a week. That will not get to 1M anytime soon. Is it discounted yet?

I think this game is undertracked.. Nintendo results shows that Twisted Metal is on 11th number in terms of sales in USA for Q1 2012.

http://www.neogaf.com/forum/showpost.php?p=37348990&postcount=83

which means second month sales in USA alone is around 150k atleast. Whereas VGC shows it quite low.. even less than 50k for USA for the Month of march

In terms of marketing, this game could not have launched at a worse time, Sony was showing advertisements for PlayStation Vita at around the time of Twisted Metal's release.

A massive shame though, this game is awesome. It's like a love-letter to the 90s style of video game design.

But I'm sure that this game will sell at least 1.00m before the end of 2012.

This game got no advertising worldwide and it managed to get 440 k in sales right now. Not bad. And for the bad Eu numbers. Twistet Metal always get bad sales in eu. This is an title that appeal to the US audience. So not surprised by that bad numbers.

Marketing a crap doesn't make anything more than crap...

fauzman posted 03/04/2012, 09:47
Sony have been reallyt incompetent about marketing this in EU. Even tho this series is not traditionally very popular in EU, sales would very likely have been much much better had it released at the same time as in NA, as well as had much better marketing. Still will get to 1M i think.

This is doing fine. I really expectet this to do only 500k lifetime. Now it looks like this will be able to reach one million or atleast 850k sometime. Also the Twistet Metal Series was never be a big seller on PS2 times. So those sales on a much smaller userbase are good.

Okay... tired of hearing about history for this series in relation to having poor sales. Hears some history for you: The last main entry in this series released 11 years ago and sold 1.4m lifetime. That's all you need to know.

fauzman posted 02/03/2012, 09:41
I think the sales are reasonably good considering it hasnt released in Europe yet (tho the fanbase there is considerably smaller than US) and its release time. I dont know why some people (trolls) expected this to sell 500k or so. Throughout its history on the PS and PS2, sales of the series have only been 1-1.5M approx so for someone to say they expect this to sell considerably more when the ps3 customer base is so much smaller then these consoles is talking out their ass.

Oh please yourself, xbox fans always defend Alan Wake because it had a "small team" of 40 - 50 people despite taking 5 years to make, this game took three years and had a team of just over 30.

-girgosz- - You seem to be under the illusion that this is the same product that would have been on PSN. Its not and a lot more money went into it which is why it became a $60 item. These numbers are not amazing, but respectable. Its going to sell over a million units eventually.

AlkamistStar posted 26/02/2012, 11:25
@girgosz
"The development of the title then shifted from a PlayStation Network game to a "(USD)$39 product" which was multiplayer-only, similar to 2007's Warhawk and 2008's SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs Confrontation. Sony then requested for the game to contain a single-player mode with a story element, while Sony's marketing department said "Yeah, you guys don’t realize how many fans love the Twisted Metal universe, you gotta give us the stories."

The fact is that it IS now a retail title. It released for $60. Development spanned 3 YEARS. It's an established IP, with years of history. It sold ABYSMALLY. Research done. Deal with it.
