Konami said they shipped like 4.5-8 in November and recently 5. I doubt that was the entire MGS franchise. So the reason for them to ship even more must mean they are starting to run out? @mikemill and everyone else who claims this game is undertracked. There are multiple threads on this website that explain why the 4.5m number is misinterpreted. Also, there are various posts (by me and possibly others) already on this wall that clearly points out why the 4.5m number is misinterpreted. Please, try reading the real press release before complaining about sales. As for being "stuck" at 3.91 when a game only sells 3-4k/week it will take a few weeks before it moves. Message | Report |

Damn it, I'm only at chapter(?) two, but I already regret paying attention to all the spoilers I've been exposed to. Plus I have been told that there'll be some major surprises, and since my imagination is different from Kijoma's, I fear I might be disappointed by surprises that are different than I imagined. Objectively, the save system is not the best, as checkpoints are far in between, and if you must quit before reaching the next one, the progress since the last one is lost. Message | Report |

@jmcraddock vgchartz never tracked that game in the US or Europe and just put the totals in when an update was received. The same can be done again with the 7m information. You just need to funnel it to the right people. There are a lot of games that are under tracked due to vgchartz not tracking them in one or more regions. Message | Report |

@halo_john I already pointed out on this wall why the 4.5m number is misunderstood. Also, there are various threads in the forums on why the 4.5m number is misunderstood. The heart of the problem is that they stated they shipped 4.5m copies of the metal gear solid series in 08. Series being the key word here, as they were shipping a collectors edition for the PS2 and probably other games (not sure what is still on shelves). Anyways, we know that 4.5m was the upper limit at the end of 08, but you must subtract sales for all the other MGS games. Message | Report |

The only room for error right now is through Europe, not the US, and not Japan. Maybe it could be 100k higher in Europe, but that is no reason to troll this game page almost every single day. Out of the 4.5 Million MGS stuff shipped, it is pretty much guaranteed that MGS4 itself, shipped more than 4.2 Million itself, i mean MGS1 2 AND 3 don't even chart now. Seeing as we are entering April, that should mean that at the very least, another 100k to 300k could have been shipped, making the total equal to or if not above 4.5 Million shipped just for MGS4. Now these are not concrete numbers by any means, but the fact that MGS4 is doing like 5k every week and games like HAZE are selling more than it now per week, says something. Not to mention MGS4 went platinum and weekly sales haven't increased, but instead decreased. It all looks abit suspicious, thats all. Message | Report |

Ok, this is getting stupid. Konami announced in their press release that 4.5m units for the entire MGS series were shipped in 08. This includes more than MGS4. If someone posts saying that MGS4 shipped 4.5m and should be over 4m. I am banning them. This is your final warning. Guys, the difference is only 4% (30/700). Media Create and Famitsu often have larger differences than that WEEKLY. Just look at their Wii numbers for this past week. If it is undertracked (and from the looks of it, it probably isn't - at least not by much), they'll fix it eventually. It may not happen immediately, however, because (as Louie pointed out multiple times) Brett has pushed up the release of VGChartz 2.0 drastically. He even gave up is past job so that he could start running the site full time! If it needs to get done, it'll get done. Don't worry about it. Message | Report |

Guys honestly you need to chill out. 30k is such a small amount of sales it doesn't really matter anyways. And if I remember correclty the shipment number reffered to the whole Metal Gear Solid series, didn't it? I personally think it must be insulting for Brett who puts so much effort into this site and these numbers when some rabbid fans claim it is "disgusting" or a "fail" when vgchartz uses its own sources. Honestly, Brett has so much more information than you guys have. You only have shipment numbers for the series, that's all. Now maybe there are a lot of copies sitting on shelves, so what? They'll be sold anyway at some point and our numbers will show that. Anybody up for Brett's job here? Do you even know how much work he has to put into this site? As someone who loves Gears 2 and MGS4, I can say without a doubt that MGS4 is a better looking gaming, with much better textures, and sound. Gears 2 looks awesome too, but they cover up tons of surfaces with low res textures by bump mapping everything. There's also a good bit of screen tearing in Gears 2, which is another strike against it. Message | Report |

There's something I don't understand... I remember Konami reporting 3 million shipped to retail a few weeks after its release. Couple months later, 4 million and most recently 4.5. So if retailers already had 400 thousand copies (even more than that, at the time) just sitting around in storage, why would they order another large shipment? :/ Message | Report |

I highly doubt it's undertracked as much as I wish it were. I don't know about you guys but every where I go I always see stacks of this game. It's depressing because it deserves to sell so much more. The walmart closest to me never even sold out of it's initial stock I don't think. :( There is a high possiblity of there being 1 million on shelves and even if there isn't the game still wouldn't be at 4 million sold yet. The majority of a game's lifetime sells are made in aproximately 1 year from it's release. MGS4 has been out for half that plus it has yet to see the holydays. MGS4 has a real chance for 5 mil. life time which is amazing for such a hardcore game nowadays. Message | Report |

Easily game of the year regardless of what console you own. I believe every single true gamer out there should play this one from start to finish. I've been a hardcore gamer now 30 years and this one blew me a way. It set the bar for all the other's to match or even try and better it. I've beaten the game and I'm playing it again. this game is under tracked 500k minimum. Konami shipped 4.33 million at the end of september plus made at least 300k shipment since september. total shipment 4.63! In the first month maybe it possible to have more than 1 million on store shelves, particularly if the game was a flop, but after 5 month the retailer cannot have this great amount of dead money. The greatest game I've ever played! Although the MGS series has been my favorite since I first picked it up a few years back. 4 tops number 3 as my personal favorite. Everything PlayStaion on this site is totaly undertracked. they say that the PSP is at 38 mil when at Leipzig Sony said that they sold 41mil. by now PSP is probebly 45mil. and this game probebly has 5 mil sold. vgchartz is undertracking everything. The Bundle sales aren't counted for the amount sold on VGchartz. The 3.2 million sold you're seeing is the game being sold by it's lonesome. if you included Bundle sales in the mix it would probably be the best selling PS3 game. Sony don't seem to be pulling a Nintendo here and counting Wii Sports bundle sales in the total software sales count. Which they should, because you can choose not to get the MGS4 bundle, but for the longest time you couldn't get a Wii without Wii sports. Message | Report |

the only reason it has such impressive legs in America is cause of the bundle. For the whole month of Augest the only PS3 available, for the most part, was the 80gb MGS4 bundle. Thats not to sale MGS4 hasn't sold amazingly well. Its sold better then Snake eater on a console with a fraction of the install base. I dont think it will sell better then MGS2 though. In response to challis's comment the game is definitely not over-hyped. I think if you actually give the game time you find out the game-play is actually not bad at all if your good enough to use it well. And Metal Gear Solid 4, without doubt had the best story to ever be created for a video game. Metal Gear Solid 4 is video game story-telling at it's very best. The game-play, admittedly, is an acquired taste. Even if you don't like the game-play nearly every gamer will find joy in it's wonderful storyline and awesome cut-scenes. Message | Report |

I find the game overhyped. The graphics are not substantially better than most next generation games. I find sneaking around avoiding the AI gets dull quickly. The tactics and strategy scenarios are too forced. The gunfights are poorly done because the controls and responses are clunky, the AI often stand still during gunfights yelling "the enemy", and Snake's movements are unrealistically restricted. I don't recommend this game to someone who doesn't know and really like the series. Message | Report |

There won't be a port, the game has made huge profits and it can't be done on the 360. there are too many contracts and hardware differences to make a port. Also, you say that people keep saying there will be a port. I say, people have been saying there will be a re-make of FFVII and we are still waiting. Don't hold your breath, because it isn't going to happen. This game also has no shot of being the best selling in the series. The PS3 doesn't have a big enough install base. Message | Report |

@erikguy You honestly think it'll only do Motostorm numbers ? Be serious. Despite the price and userbase it is the fastest selling MGS title and it is already 2,6 mil after a month.
