Muramasa: The Demon Blade is a 2D Action/RPG developed by independent gaming studio Vanilla Ware famous for games featuring detailed hand drawn characters and backgrounds such as Odin Sphere and Princess Crown. You take on the role of either Momohime, the daughter of a Feudal Lord who has mysteriously vanished from her home with a sacred blade or Kisuke, a renegade Ninja who is being pursued for a crime he cannot remember committing.
Heavily routed in Japanese Folklore and Anime design, the game retains all of its original Japanese language and text for the international release. Gameplay also resembles that of previous Vanilla Ware titles such as Odin Sphere, though gameplay is much more action oriented and fluid.
Muramasa: The Demon Blade is published by Marvelous Entertainment in Japan, by Ignition Entertainment in America and by Rising Star Games in Europe.
