In the debut week of the new year, sales are topsy-turvy, as older games have taken a huge boost, while newer games had massive drops.
Metal Slug 3 debuts on the top of the All Games charts, with an estimated 7,700 units of sale. This is a rather strong number compared to most other games. Metal Slug 3 is a unique title, in the fact that it was an arcade title in 2000, was ported as a full-price ($30+) Xbox game 5 years ago, and is now a $10.00 USD Arcade/Console Classic game. Appearently, many gamers saw it as a value-buy and picked it up.
In other news, superpowers Sensible World of Soccer, and Arkadian Warriors both had spectacular drops - both dropped nearly 65% from last week.
Why the drop? It seems that after Christmas, many new Xbox 360 owners were searching the various games, buying up mostly older titles. Games in the # 40-75 recieved huge boosts in certain areas. Games such as Castlevainia: SOTN, Worms, Street Fighter, and such recieved boosts.
Also comparing last week to this week, titles with sales was vastly up - 12 titles more sold over 500 units than last week, showing that newer gamers are more inclined, currently, to purchase older games. Even free downloads such as Yaris dropped considerably, while older Aegis Wings had a large increase. Some titles have been modified and edited since last week, to help conform to recent XBLA sales publications from MS. Most of our numbers have been very close to their numbers. Our top-10 for the year had many (if not all) of the games in similar positions.

Each of them represent various sales statuses and justification(s).
I'll re-post the Faq link.
what do al those * *** () etc mean?
Sami - I was looking over historical numbers, and saw that SFII was much higher than what I had attributed for.
Initially, I had it higher way back - around 384k units. So this is a correction back to those numbers, as I had weighted against SFII in December's correction, and shouldn't of.
In other news, Tron will be game #2 for the week. 400msp, and looks like crap.
I noticed some strange numbers for example
12/29 --- Street Fighter 2 HF (308,001)
1/5 --- Street Fighter 2 HF (373,149)
Can you explain the discrepancy? I have been following only a couple titles but that one specifically stuck out. I don't think the game had an additional 70k+ sales in those couple weeks.
Omega Five!!! Yes!!
Hiruu - what do you mean by how revenue is handled?
Typically, the developers of the game produce the game (ie, ship it to MS with everything 100% working perfectly). If this is the case for the developer, they get 70% of all total revenue.
If Microsoft publishes it (ie, modifies the game with the proper net codes, and works out the minor stuff, or works on your own IP), it's split 50/50.
BTW...Microsoft is giving a free arcade game for the holiday problems, and they issued a complete apology for the problems experienced this holiday season...wow...what got into them??? Good customer service...must be the new microsoft gaming...
This is a nice little money maker for Xbox...does anybody know how the revenue streams are handled?
How easy is it to get a game into the XBLA, looks like a great way to get a team started off.
I'll learn XNA and join the creators club if I have a good chance of succeeding in getting it on the Live arcade
Oh
I understand now ..
thanx ..
Giggs - There are no achievements for the Orig. games. Because of that, I cannot track sales.
Way to go XBLA!!!
What about XBOX orginal ?
Ack. I didn't update the LTD Revenue numbers. Gimme a minute for that.
I don't understand the SWOS numbers:
23,676 $81,576
That would be just under $4, isn't it $10?
Not recently. I just got one or two emails a few weeks ago.
They're still going to be estimates until I can get numbers from publishers and devs, as they are only ones that get "real" information.
Until then, these numbers should be fairly accurate.
Nice work. Good to see that trends can now be analyzed, with so many weeks already tallied up.
Have you gotten anymore feedback from publishers?
hunter - I agree. I was very, very suprised that MS3 would sell ~7k units so quickly. The big question is how it does over the next whole week. Could it be frontloaded?
However, Sensible World of Soccer, had it not of been pulled for 2 days, would of easily beat MS3's opening.
Will edit with the XBLA Title of The Week for next week.
Good XBLA sales ... MS3 sold much batter than I thaught it will :)
Very nice Stickball.
