The Witcher IV Launches in 2028 - News
by William D'Angelo , posted 1 day ago / 1,895 ViewsCD Projekt RED has announced The Witcher IV will launch in 2028. Exact platforms haven't been revealed yet.
"I wanted to invite you to watch Opening Night Live and come visit us on the Gamescom show floor," said CD Projekt RED joint-CEO Michal Nowakowski.
"We’re going big this year with something very special: The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt – Songs of the Past. We have a lot of the expansion to show off, including a taste of its dark story and the new content it will bring, so join us at Gamescom if you can, where we have a huge booth in Hall 8 and a team ready to show off the first full look at Songs of the Past. And make sure to tune into special RED streams when they go live each and every day. We might even have a surprise or two to share.
"Of course, there is much more happening in the world of The Witcher. Our team here at CD Projekt Red HQ is hard at work on a brand new saga, one with Ciri at the helm. We have more than 500 incredibly talented developers working to create something truly special for you. The Witcher IV features a huge and immersive open world, intense and action-packed gameplay and a deep impactful story that we hope will stay with you for a long time. Simply put, this is our biggest, boldest, and most ambitious game to date.
"Now, I know you’re eager to learn when it’s coming. That’s the question we’re hearing from you all the time. So while we’re not showing The Witcher IV at the event and we’re not ready to share an exact date, I can tell you this. The Witcher IV is targeting a 2028 release window. I know it’s a bit of a wait and you’d love to play it sooner, but let the team cook. It will be worth the wait. Until then, there will be plenty more of The Witcher to come, including Songs of the Past when it launches in 2027. And you can be sure Gamescom is also in our plans for the coming years. See you on the path!"

Noo physical noo buy..
Technically a physical edition could release on Xbox. However unlikely that is.
A slim chance they might do something. Cyberpunk is one of the newest PC games to have a physical edition (and a pretty nice one). Could be a collectors edition at least
They have already shown the tech demo of it running on PS5 so it's pretty safe to assume that it will be either on PS5 or cross gen with PS6 as well depending on if the console launches by that point.
Yep, why the hell wouldn't it be on all the usual platforms.
So it won't release on Playstation, I see.
It's CD Projekt RED so, I'll believe it when I see it.
That logo looks kinda weird, but hey 2028 is fine by me just make it damn good
Correct if I am wrong, but I didn't think there are any announced platforms for The Witcher IV other than PC. Meaning a PS5 and Xbox Series release is speculation. I think it would be obvious that it's a PS6/Project Helix title at this point with a release of 2028, with maybe also being cross-gen with PS5/Xbox Series. Or maybe not (?) (see Cyberpunk 2077 trying to run on PS4/Xbox One at launch lol)
You are right. I've updated the article.
It will definitely be on PS5/Xbox. The tech demo was running on PS5 at 60fps and they mentioned this being their target.
You are correct, CD Projekt RED did confirm that the UE5 tech demo was running on a base PS5, but even still, I don't think they have ever officially confirmed the game's release platforms. I'm not trying to say I don't think it will come out on PS5 - I'm like 99% sure it will - I'm just saying I don't think they have announced any consoles for it yet.
Because of the whole Cyberpunk fiasco, I could see them being a bit cautious in the release of Witcher IV in terms of which platforms can play the game well. If we are talking like a Nov or Dec 2028 release (let's face it, that is probably what it will be lol) and the game runs totally fine on PC and PS6 and Project Helix, but does NOT run all that great on PS5/Xbox Series, I could see them releasing it for next-gen consoles/PC only and pushing back the current-gen consoles to Spring 2029 or something. Just to avoid all the backlash that might occur if they don't play well, like with Cyberpunk at launch.
