Astro Bot Sales Top 1.5 Million Units - Sales
by William D'Angelo , posted on 08 November 2024 / 12,098 ViewsPublisher Sony Interactive Entertainment and developer Team Asobi in Sony's latest earnings report have announced Astro Bot has sold over 1.5 million units as of November 3, 2024.
Astro Bot released for the PlayStation 5 on September 6.
Our own Lee Mehr gave the game an 8.5 out of 10 in his review and said "As an ode to PlayStation, Astro Bot succeeds at meaningfully infusing its history; as an all-ages theme park, it succeeds by infusing each location with an overwhelming sense of joyous wonder most often felt in Nintendo platformers, but with a level of technical sophistication not yet seen from its hardware."

Considering it probably didn't cost a lot to make it will probably make a good profit
this will be in a bundle package one day
Personally think it was a huge miss to not bundle with a Black Friday deal and price drop, considering the ever dropping sales rate of PS5. Throw in Astro Bot and drop the price $50 for just Black Friday week, I mean come on Sony :(
completely agree!
would have moved a lot of systems!
Not bad for a non-Mario platformer, but I feel like it deserved better
Its not too far from Ratchet and Clank and probably cost a lot less as it wasn't a tech demo. I'd say we can see how it sells over time, but Sony is far less reliable about sales updates than say, Nintendo.
It did sell better than Demon Souls, though not sure if it would cost more to make that the Demon Souls remake.
Deserves so much more, but hopefully Astro will carve its way and open way for more visibility to platformer games in Playstation.
Humble beginnings but it'll reach much higher
That was alot less than I expected..... I was expecting like double that.
Hope this has long legs once price goes down a little. I bought Day 1 to support; absolutely amazing game
Edit: Actually this Nov 3rd, so probably a bit less than what I was expecting.
If this up to September 30th, pretty much in line with what I was expecting, even higher. For comparison Ratchet sold 1.1m in same period and went on to reach 4m LT. I'm expecting Astro to hit 5m, minimum.
Bundle it!
Yes with Astrobot! = big sales
Good sales but deserves much more. Maybe if it wins GOTY it can get boost in sales.
Not bad but not the hyped up sales people were predicting. Honestly, the Playstation userbase has just been culled to buy shooting/action and sports games with realistic art style, not this old school fun type of game. Most gamers who enjoy this old school fun type of game stick to Nintendo systems cuz that is where these sorts of games still exist in large number.
That's too bad for this great looking game. But it's same as say when CoD games are gonna start releasing on Nintendo next gen, all the gamers that want to constantly buy realistic aesthetic war/shooting/action games have had to move to PS/XB/PC over the past couple decades as third parties stopped putting those games on Nintendo, so the Switch2 CoD games will no doubt sell millions but likely not the tens of millions they sell on PS and PC.
The choices third party studios have made as far as what games go on what systems the past two decades have forced this stratification of the gamer market for the different systems. Astrobot would sell 10+ million on Switch, on PS5 it'll be forgotten by January as the latest realistic looking action games and sports games come out, and end up at most at a few million.
I think people greatly underestimate the significance Nintendo's brand recognition plays in the sales of their games. Unless Astrobot was made by Nintendo, featuring Nintendo characters you would not see significant increase in sales on Switch.
Just look at the recent sales of Sonic Generations, PS5 was the leading sales platform. Likely the Switch version will catch up over time due to it's more casual audience, but to go back to Astro, the game wouldn't magically do 10m on Switch. It's rare that platformers that aren't mario do big numbers and the most recent breakout title (Kirby Forgotten Lands) still hasn't reached 8m on Nintendo's 145m userbase.
Still my personal GOTY. I would have wished it sold more, but let's see what the holiday sales bring.
Wasn't this the game which was outpacing every other platformer in the last 10 years not named Mario?
If Mario wonder did these numbers in 2 months Nintendo would be in state of emergency.
This game deserves the world honestly.
My GOTY this year and hopefully it enjoys great extended legs this holiday season and beyond.
Sounds good. I imagine this didn't have as big of a budget as contemporary AAA titles...
Pretty disappointing after 2 months tbh as majority of its sales would’ve happened by now. Hopefully the budget was small enough to where it’s still able to pull a profit. The game deserves it.
Deserves a lot more sales! The new mascot of Playstation after littlebigplanets shutdown, hopefully a remastered version for 1/2
Well done little guy.
It really could have been more than that... especially knowing they had nothing else this year
Might buy it, when it releases on Steam one day. Haven't turned on my PS5 for quite a while and don't plan to buy games a year ahead if I have to go full price on PC again.
They should port it to the Switch 2, it could bring in a bunch of sales there.
Yeah, but only if Nintendo launches it at 500$. At 400$ the Switch 2 might still be enough of a competitor to Sony that it shouldn't just be giving Nintendo it's games
For 1 month these sales would have been ok but for nearly 2 months i really can't help myself calling it at least dissapointing. I would not call it a flop, but 1,5 million for a game that was supposed to be THE "Mario Killer", sales are a joke. I am really sorry but there is absolutley no way to praise these sales. For reference, i could be wrong but is it possible that Mario Kart 8 for the WiiU did like 1,2- 1,3 million in its first week? Has anybody got numbers? I mean this would be quite embarrasing if true.😞
Who called it THE Mario killer?
he's been running on this line for the past week. It's so outlandish to claim that anybody was calling Astro the "Mario killer" that I question whether these comments are coming in good faith, or if they are intended to provoke a response from ppl.
Yeah. Even if comments like these were made obviously it's from a few delusional people.
These sales are fine, but this game deserved more than just 'fine'.
There where so many tests saying the game was so much better than Mario Odeyssy and what a sucess the game will have. I mean graphically we do not need to argue that Astro is superior. I do hope a current console (PS5) outclasses an 8 years old handheld. But from the reactions i can see there are quite a few people expecting more from Astro.
MK8D sold 1.37 million this past year.
