The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned worldwide sales of the Xbox Series X|S and Xbox 360.

The Xbox Series X|S launched in November 2020, while the Xbox 360 launched in November 2005 in North America and December 2005 in Europe and Japan. This does mean the holiday periods for the two consoles do lineup.

Gap change in latest month: 13,951 - XSX|S

Gap change over last 12 months: 4,309,461 - X360

Total Lead: 1,495,731 - X360

Xbox Series X|S Total Sales: 29,636,792

Xbox 360 Total Sales 31,132,523

July 2024 is the 45th month the Xbox Series X|S has been available for. In the latest month, the gap grew in favor of the Xbox Series X|S when compared to the aligned launch of the Xbox 360 by 13,951 units.

In the last 12 months, the Xbox 360 has outsold the Xbox Series X|S by 4.31 million units. The Xbox Series X|S is currently behind the Xbox 360 by 1.50 million units.

The Xbox Series X|S has sold 29.64 million units in 45 months, while the Xbox 360 sold 31.13 million units. Month 45 for the Xbox Series X|S is July 2024 and for the Xbox 360 is July 2009.

The Xbox 360 crossed 40 million in month 54, 50 million in month 62, and 60 million in month 73. The Xbox 360 sold 85.73 million units lifetime. The Xbox Series X|S is 56.09 million units behind lifetime Xbox 360 sales.

This one comparison will likely be retired soon or at least once the Switch 2 launches and we got some new comparisons to do. I'll keep doing the comparison with the Xbox One.

Fair. Because by time the Kinect bundles and other boosts come for 360, Series X/S is going to get destroyed.

It likely won't be able to pass 360 YTD ever again. We're only about a year away from the Xbox 360 Slim and over a year (but less than a year and a half) away from Kinect.
I see little chance Holiday 2024 is better for Series than Holiday 2009 was for 360.

I guess timed exclusivity of Indiana Jones: The Great Circle and BO6 in subscription may slightly boost XS sales. But at the moment I'm not sure that it will be enough for XS in 2024 to reach its 2023's numbers.
