The VGChartz sales comparison series of articles are updated monthly and each one focuses on a different sales comparison using our estimated video game hardware figures. The charts include comparisons between the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch, as well as with older platforms. There are articles based on our worldwide estimates, as well as the US, Europe, and Japan.

This monthly series compares the aligned Japanese sales of the Nintendo Switch and Nintendo DS.

The DS launched in December 2004 in Japan and the Nintendo Switch launched in March 2017. Therefore, the normal holiday periods and the Japanese Golden Week holiday for the two consoles do not lineup.

What is left for the Switch to beat aside from DS's and PS2's worldwide sales?

US/North America: Switch is behind the DS and PS2
Europe: Switch is behind the PS2, DS, PS4, and Game Boy
It has a shot at #1 in the US/North America, but no chance in Europe.

If I were to add one it would most likely be Switch vs DS in the US. Switch is 8.68M behind the DS in the US.

It's like Switch launched in Japan in fall 2019 not spring 2017.. Very good sales pace there.
